The Political Compass (For China)

squiggle Well its been an interesting thread and it was fascinating to see that my OH who is very laid back is more authoritarian than I am! [ more ]
Leccy The right/left is just the economic aspect Squiggle (BBBS was right) The other is up/down scale is the social aspect...so for example:LL was slightly left of centre economically...but was conservative (small c) on the social chart... I think it's correct to take the 2 aspects into consideration when discussing politics. The purely left/right thing has shortcomings...it doesn't give the full picture. [ more ]

My Monkey Baby
peggytyson Oh gawd, i didn't see that bit! How awful, i just don't know how people can be so cruel. The arrogance of some people takes my breath away sometimes, thinking that they can just do whatever they like with another species just to suit themselves! [ more ]
sadbeeach I saw it too and it was disturbing watching those poor monkeys or monkids as they called them!! but the baby girl monkey cried and the couple took it home they had 2 dangerous breed dogs at home who licked it quite roughly i thought and the poor little thing looked at the camera after nearly being knocked over as if to say please help me before i am his lunch. These people need help badly but America as the commentator said have no laws regarding people keeping monkeys surely it should be... [ more ]
faerykelstar She was bliddy awful that woman, weren't she?!! I couldn't believe she actually resented her kids for growing up and moving out of home!! They way she treated that monkey was seriously disturbing and the whole program left me feeling sick. Those poor monkeys. I hated the bit where the breeder took that couple into the cages and the poor (monkey) mother was obviously distressed at having her child taken from her. [ more ]

SUMMER SANDALS
Ells I will endure heels for a night out but do pay for it for days afterwards with welts and blisters I love wearing flats and spend all summer in thongs or gladiators or occasionally wedges. [ more ]
prettycocoaeyes Wow I had a varicose vein scare after a night on the town, but it was just a leg bruise lol.... I have seen pictures of them and they dont look good... Now I will avoid heels even more.... Thanks for that info... [ more ]
Guest Sometimes they need operating on later to increase blood flow to the feet...that is quiet unusual though....the main thing is they look so unsightly. Big bluey veins bulging from your ankles to knees and sometimes higher. Most peeps get some varicose veins at some stage but the heels seem to make them happen so much earlier and far more pronounced. I used to wear very high heels a lot when I was younger...then my Mum warned me. I am the same as you now...heels for special occasions only. [ more ]

would someone kindly explain 'newspapers' please..!
Garage Joe I've been in my hometown but I thought that me ears were burning though but. I don't like mung beans, but I do like Polly Toynbee, she even used her Blackberry to reply to Mrs Joe once. Can supercalifragilistic give road reports please. If I had known the highway at the bottom of her hill was going to be like that I would have taken a different route [ more ]
BBBS well said. [ more ]
Former Member I read (mostly online) the Times, the Guardian, sometimes the Independent, and occasionally the Mail/Express depending on the story. They're all biased, not just on their angles but on which news stories they select and the order and position of those stories. I read more than one newspaper deliberately to even out the bias, especially if I'm following a particular story. I'm a bit of a news junkie really. Some of it is personal too. I prefer particular writing styles and formats. I like the... [ more ]

BBBS bb5 no, but read whatm (same as lut) not watching without live feed someone else should take it since the live feed is still being produced just not transmitted i reckon it could come back as the headless chickens run out of things to blame for the abject failure of the show. they might as well cancel it, its as good as dead without a live feed because its no longer big brother. There making funny noises in the office again
BBBS because some cats have a death wish, they kind of bounce up and down underneath then fly up in the air out of the back unless they are unlucky and hit the wheel in which case its more like a toothpaste tube without being too graphic. either way its not a nice thing but sadly it does happen and is impossible to avoid, you should never ever swerve to avoid one because you could lose control and hit a child. BBBS yup, same one maggie had in 79, still its something the torys are good at, its whether the voters are astute enough to understand. [ more ]
Liverpoollass I agree Hyacinth. It's also not going to happen straight away. It is going to take years to get us out of the mess Labour have put us in. I just hope if the Conservatives get in, the electorate are patient. [ more ]

Dead Pets Society
Barolo Meant to add a dead pony story to the last post! Not so much a story as such - just something that happened. At a barbecue with friends, the hosts told us that their 17 year old daughter, Emma, was very upset because her horse had died the previous day - it wasn't ill or anything - it just dropped dead! One of the guests (a colleague of mine) was trying to encourage Emma to join the party - he was shouting up to her window and, getting no response, he shouted "Emma, yoo-hoo", which made... [ more ]
Barolo Dead Cat Story: A barmaid in our local was distraught when her cat went missing and was showing everyone pictures of it to see if they recognised it. My mate reckoned that he's seen a similar cat lying dead on a building site nearby. He went there to make sure, decided it was her cat and covered it up with a piece of canvas. He told her he thought he had found her cat and took her to it. Then, when he was telling me about it he said, "It was in such a manky state, even the maggots were... [ more ]
