You can have the last word.
Saint It's good to share - I also wonder how many people's everyday struggles, we all face, are being interpreted as major issues now we have a culture of 'mental health madness' - for want of a better phrase and making them think they need help? Most people do not have mental health problems in the classic sense, everyone struggles, we all go though rough times and such people are hijacking centre stage at the cost of those with enduring mental health issues. Too much education? Or not enough... [ more ]

Online is mad.
Baz Exactly Renton….and in some cases , those trips to the post office , or bank , were the only times people got to see/speak to another human being ! [ more ]
Saint Said the same Velvy - Post Office has stopped accepting benefits payments, now it's direct to bank but if your bank is nowhere near how do you get your £££? Going to the local to withdraw was part of some people's routine kept or years and now to 'cut costs' people are being ostracised in their own community - they don't think about that [ more ]
Baz I agree Velvet ….banks and post offices are a lifeline for many elderly people ! I’m pretty internet savvy , but lots of people still aren’t … and it’s not like the banking sector are hard up ! [ more ]

I know we shouldn’t panic but
Baz They (UKHSA and the ECDC) are now saying people with the monkey pox should not handle their pets …and should isolate them …to prevent a reservoir (ping pong effect) between humans and domestic animals ! [ more ]
Saint Monkey pox aside . . . urghh, are we becoming the vermin we so ruthlessly exterminate? I called our GP to get a 'call-back' appointment over the phone and was told I was too late as all the appointments had gone due to "so many of the doctors being off sick". Quite alarming when you think about it [ more ]
Baz Yes, it is Slim…..and so many of the things they’ve been saying …eg downplaying it initially , but gradually seeing it increase ….seem to be mirroring the early days of covid . [ more ]

30p a day.
Eugene's Lair I'm going to hazard a guess that he didn't factor in the cost of the gas or electric required to cook it either. Common errors made by those who keep insisting the poor just need to learn how to cook and budget (and which the like of Jack Monroe keep having to correct) include: 1) Relying on bulk-buying. As you point out, those getting by week-by-week (or even day-by-day) can't afford to do that. 2) Not including the "hidden" costs, such as the gas/electric for cooking. 3) Low... [ more ]
Baz ….and my mum used to say that too [ more ]
Former Member I was reading about this. He doubled down saying he has proof from the food bank that this is achievable. Said the bank made a meal for 50 averaging 30p a portion. So that’s: one food option only, no variety made using bulk quantities, not possible on a budget made using donated / out of date products no drinks or sides As they say in statistics, small samples give erroneous results. As my gran used to say, empty barrels make the most noise. 🤬 [ more ]

Carers allowance.
Baz It’s awful Renton [ more ]
Saint I get it - I just got an increase last week - I have the paper in my hand right now - it's £69.70 And that is NOT per person I care for - it's for (and I quote the DWP when I contacted them) "Your out of pocket expenses and not an allowance per person" in my care. So I am paid £69.70 regardless of how many people in my care - that's my weekly 'wage' for 24hr care = 41p per hour (approx) [ more ]
Baz Isn’t there a slightly higher allowance too Velvet …..but I agree they are both rubbish ! [ more ]

Saint Oh this seems to be rather serious - I thought it was quite lighthearted banter between waring Politicians. And now female political reporters are coming forward to raise their own issues of misogyny within HC !! Just shows this is the real reason why women are still so under represented in the workplace [ more ]

Priti Patel
Carnelian Minorities in the Tory Party have to prove themselves 'worthy' of respect and career progression in the institutionally racist Tory party. Pritti knows to get anywhere in the Tory Party she has to be more racist or more right-wing than the white MPs. The Tory Party knows the left and liberals are less keen to accuse a British Asian Tory MP of racism than a British white MP. But a racist she certainly is. So it's a win-win for the Tories and Priti. Look what happened to Syeda Warsi when she... [ more ]

suricat Hi EFFT, "Please designate a 'thread'. If not, I shall." I've found it 'impossible' for me to generate a 'thread' here! How can this be done? It would be of 'help' if an 'obvious route' to this was available in a "help menu"! Now I remember why I left this site. Kind regards, Ray Dart (AKA. suricat). [ more ]
suricat O'Kay 'EFFT''. I've been away a while, but I really do think that our/your readers need to understand the 'machinations' of our 'planet '! We should educate/elucidate them if they have any interest in the way that Earth interacts with 'forces' that alter equilibrium for surface temperature. Please designate a 'thread'. If not, I shall. Kind regards, Ray Dart.l [ more ]
suricat Let's take this discussion to a 'page' 'thread' of your choice 'fluffy'. Best regards, Ray. [ more ]

There's no point talking about it.
slimfern During lockdown when the government tried to house all the homeless (an empty gesture) I spoke to my friend John who has been on the streets for a good few years (ex heroin addict), he refused to be housed because the offer of a roof was with men and women who were either on drugs or drink...he didn't want to be tempted by his old ways. He also said he would find it difficult to go back to being within 4 walls We managed to get him a tent on a site with toilet facilities...he's quite content... [ more ]
