Fox Hunting returns!
Cigarettes & Alcohol I'd take this story with a pinch of salt, I mean any anti conservative propganda dished out by the Brown Broadcasting Corperation is likely to be as full of hot air and rubbish as our dejected humiliated prime minister himself. I find it amazing how the BBC reports the many mistakes of the Government as trifling issues, then springs on any unsubstatiated rumour about the Conservatives and makes it a lead story. [ more ]
Garage Joe Reference: Will they be bringing back the cock fighting Reference: You really don't want to see the mental image that conjured! And on a Sunday! I'm sure that Lilibet1 (Gately) can speak for herself. [ more ]
Twee Surgeon Oscar Wilde summed up foxhunting as 'the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable'. Eight little words loaded with meaning, really. The situation now is the same as in 1979. The Tories will get in, simply because the country itself is ready for a change. The voters think it will be better under the Tories, but it won't. It will be more of the same, as it was post-1979. Whether they change the law on foxhunting won't apply. We will have more important things to worry about imo. [ more ]

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
Twee Surgeon hi sub It's great that you have joined the Club. I have read Prey and it's very good. It's not my usual genre but it was great to explore another type of book. I think the deadline for discussing it is next Saturday but I think we will be discussing it in sections. I will re-read it again as we are discussing it so that it is fresh. How are you getting on with Wolf Hall? [ more ]
subatomic partygirl Reference: I am in the Book Club on LiveCloud and our first book, reading as a Group, is Prey by Michael Crichton. Why don't you join us Sub? Funnily enough, I found The Book Club by accident and joined yesterday! Off to buy 'Prey' tomorrow. Like you, it's not a genre I wuld normally read but I'm willing to give it a go. I've never really met a book I didn;t like in *some* way. They're all journeys to be experienced. [ more ]
Twee Surgeon hiya sub Hope you are well. Yes, the description can sometimes set the scene. I'm not sure what you call Hilary Mantel's writing style in Wolf Hall. I think it's called First Person Narrative, where the events are happening as she writes. She transports us back to the Sixteenth Century and we can 'see' the people and the buildings. It's very clever. Yes, A S Byatt was Hilary Mantel's main competition for the Booker. From your quote, I can tell I will like this book but I will order from the... [ more ]

Advice - affairs
Cariad1 Sorry Arwen. I just get on my high horse about stuff like this. Maybe it'll work out if they are both prepared to make an effort. Maybe she has let herself go and he's become fed up with that but by the same token has he shown any interest in helping her get back on track? It's tough in the months after having a baby - you both need to muck in, and it can be easy to lose sight of the people you were before the baby arrived. All of us who've been there know that. Anyone else had a bad reaction to this year's flu jab?
Baz I had mine a couple weeks ago, and apart from a very sore arm and some sniffles the day after (which might have been just a coincidence), I have been fine [ more ]
Jenny I'm due to have mine tomorrow. I've only had it once before, last year, and got no reaction. I hope it's the same this time. As it happens, I haven't had flu for donkey's years, and one cold in the last 6. Mind you, I got a funny reaction to that cold, and ended up in hospital because my wrists and hands got really swollen. Still don't know the real cause of it. (I do have arthritis in my wrists and hands). [ more ]
fabienne Reference: Moomin I had the flu jab every year for several years until about 4 years ago - I've never got round to it the last few years - I bet if I went to my surgery for it this year, they'd probably send me off with a flea in my ear as I haven't taken it up the last couple of years. Do you think they'll probably say I'm not entitled to it any more? If you're in an at-risk category, you'll still be entitled, I'd have thought. [ more ]

The new Dan Brown book - The Lost Symbol
Twee Surgeon hiya Scooby I don't think Dan Brown writes a lot of books. There was a fair space in between this new one and his last one. I can't see another book from him any time soon. I really enjoyed The Lost Symbol. I do love reading Scooby. I am in the Book Club here on Live Cloud and we are currently reading Prey by Michael Crichton. Why don't you join? Twee Surgeon hiya scooby I know, it's a cracker of a book isn't it? I'm glad you enjoyed it and seen the same things I did .. setting it in Washington was a masterstroke imo. I loved the symbolism of the Washington Monument and the Durer engraving/painting interpretation - all in Dan Brown's unique interpretation of course. These things do exist but he gives them all a fresh meaning/slant. I think the inscription on the Washington Monument does exist though .. or am I being sucked into Dan Brown's... [ more ]

Cagney Sounds like my nana too So many good lines in that film but when he says "call wife no1 tell her come quick wife no2 giving me troubles" always makes me laugh [ more ]
Demantoid Cagney, that bit made me laugh so much, because it reminded me of my gran. We had a horrible family who lived up our road when I was a kid, and they were such dirty skangers, the stuff hanging on their washing line was filthy. Australian Baby survives being hit by train!
queenshaks This story reminds me of when my son was about 1 and in his buggy. I had just my house and I must have been about 25 yards down the road (I live on the a long, busy road) when I realised he had dropped his toy. So I stopped the buggy and ran back, when I turn around, his buggy was in the middle of the road. I legged it towards the buggy to pull it off the road as a van was coming down it. Basically what had happened, the wheels of the buggy was at an angle when I had stopped it and it... [ more ]

♥PinkBabe1966♥The Angel under the tree! Agree totally with OP, Staffies are being bred for this purpose now sadly, because they think it makes them look hard, sad really as Staffies are my local breed of dog and if treated right are the most loyal, loving friendly pet you could wish to have.
