Moonie That is one of your best gems Joe [ more ]
Garage Joe Just to confirm that it was the exam paper that had the question and not the Rolling Stones. They asked, "Have you seen your mother baby standing in the shadows?" I found that easier to answer than Morrisey's, "How soon is now?" Hank Marvin was unavailable for comment. [ more ]

Paul Daniels has died
Eugene's Lair I saw Paul Daniels perform live several times. To be honest, his large-scale magic shows were starting to look a bit dated towards the end, but his small, one-man shows with his close-up magic and ask-me-anything audience interaction were excellent. I personally think a lot of the recent obituaries haven’t fully done him justice. They give a lot of attention to his showmanship, and that certainly was hugely influential but – probably due to the secretive nature of magic – they haven’t given... [ more ]

Cliff Michelmore: BBC radio and TV broadcaster dies aged 96
Yogi19 Great true story, Eugene. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Some of the details have become a little sketchy over the years, but the following is essentially a true story: Many years ago, my maternal Grandmother was visiting an old friend of hers. The friend's son happened to be home on holiday, and he'd brought a friend with him. During conversations, that new-fangled device the television came up. My Gran didn't have one, and the son's friend asked her what she thought of it. My Gran didn't care for it at all, and she said so: she thought it was... [ more ]

I'm off......and back again!
Lori You were in hospital?? Yikes! My sister and I and our husbands visited Dunoon as part of a larger trip in 2006, and we found the house, AND the school we attended while there. That was pretty cool. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Yes thanks Baz, it was very pleasant. Lori 67/68 was when I was in hospital, so very little chance of us, unknowingly, bumping into each other. I was looking on Google Street view, but most of Kirk Street is not covered. My Aunt lived in John Street, so I took a 'wander' down there. Just as I was thinking to myself that I was very unlikely to recognise it....I saw it! [ more ]

Facebook to pay millions of pounds more in UK tax in future
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I see it less as doing the HMRC's job more as citizen's helping the state by direct action. I mean to take your point forward should we ignore the number plate of the vehicle which clips the cyclist and drives off, after all it's the police's job to detect crime. [ more ]
Former Member I got rid of mine a good while ago [ more ]
El Loro The £21 million is a deferred tax asset. Of that, the tax losses being carried forward is just under £10 million. Most of the rest is timing differences on share based payments. We do not know when the timing differences on share based payments will impact on the corporation tax. It could be any time over the next 4 years and it's made more complicated as there will be further share based payments in future years. So it's the £10 million which we know will be available against the 2016... [ more ]
