EC Food Quiz - The results are in, in picture form.
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I was just edging my bets as it was quite a large plate of duck wraps, less a starter, more a main. But I'll not disagree as many people have it as a starter. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Duck wraps/pancakes is a starter on any Chineese menu I have seen. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I was deliberating about the first dish as being a starter, but 5 duck wraps is quite a lot for a starter, but I'm happy for anyone to call it a starter. [ more ]

Gareth Thomas, Blake's 7 actor, dies aged 71
Carnelian I never really thought the show was the same after the Blake character left. I felt the series lacked something after Gareth Thomas left the show. The Avon character, Paul Darrow, never struck me as an equal replacement as the lead character but maybe it was because I was young and didn't like the moral ambiguity of his character. I remember a series called Morgan's Boy shortly afterwards, he was good in that too. RIP Gareth Thomas [ more ]
Cold Sweat Blakes 7 was great. RIP Gareth Thomas [ more ]
Saint I enjoyed watching re-runs of Blake's 7 Sad to see him go - RIP [ more ]

Garage Joe I think I was bopped three times, obviously that's nothing compared to my very good friend Trevpuss. The mods were inconsistent, humourless and rather immature. They certainly dealt sternly with biscuit discussions although on Saturday mornings one could talk about almost anything. BB was still in it's experimental stage in those days and held a lot of interest however eventually I became more interested in the Forum and less the increasingly formulaic prog. [ more ]

Saint Wiltshire Farm Foods aside ... he seemed a true gent to all who knew him. The accolades say it all. The Phantom Raspberry Blower was genius. RIP [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Aww that's sad news. Although not my favourite comedy duo, I did enjoy a lot of T2R's, especially the 'fork handles' sketch like many others, but also Corbett's monologues which were always entertaining. If you have 37 seconds, listen to this great theme tune from one of his sitcoms, Sorry. "Language Timothy" [ more ]

Shocker!
Dame_Ann_Average Totally agree Madame...if things get any worse gawd help us all. They were warned, same old...sell everything off and pretend it's ok when they know darn fine we're up a creek without a paddle. It's appalling Madame and we're being fed the biggest load of rubbish from the media...like the BBC reporter said today, believe nothing you read or hear, use the Internet for the correct facts [ more ]
Madame Arcati That is incompetency on a breath-taking scale, Dame. No doubt they hope that flogging off the NHS to the highest bidder (on E-bay) will bring in a few quid and help to balance the books. If not, they'll probably blame Gordon Brown, again. And again. And again. Del Boy and Rodders showed more business acumen than Dodgy Dave and Gormless Gidders [ more ]
Dame_Ann_Average little update... just when you think this idiot can't be anymore incompetent he is todays official figures.... Public debt now stands at 89.4% of our national income (GDP), up from 78.4% when then the Tories came to power in 2010. This is despite Osborne’s policies for balancing the books bringing short-term single instance, rather than long-term continuous, returns. In 2015, Osborne sold off a record £26bn of our assets to the private sector. We may have gained £26bn in the short-term, but... [ more ]

My Dystopian Youth
Garage Joe Yes! Of course when Park Hill hove into view one knew the station was quite close, my father was obsessed with pointing out places of interest. When we took my son to Cornwall each year he had to suffer the same running commentary. Now it's three generations and I point out the same stuff to the eldest grandson. (Shortly before we go in the Sheffield Tap where the district judge and his pal the town clerk upend a table of beer, Pinot Grigio, and assorted snacks over my cords.) [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Well, both GJ and El are on the theme. I was listening to music last night and thinking about my youth. I lived in a 1930's semi, but spent a lot of my time at my friends houses or more accurately flats. They lived in modernist, concrete tower blocks. Park Hill, Hyde Park and Kelvin to mention a few. The music I listened to around that time had a large dollop of inspiration from Ballard, 1984, futurism and urbanism. Ironically, all my friends have moved on, up and out of Sheffield and now...
