Former Member Wishing you well Chicken, hope to hear from you soon xxx [ more ]
brisket I realise you may not see this Chicken. I don't think you post when you are up at Uni do you? However, there are still warm good wishes for you from all your forum friends. (I say that just in case you should by chance see it.) If you don't see it until you're back home; that's fine too. It proves we have been thinking of you. [ more ]

Then went to Bradford in 2006-2009 Then signed for Wakefield in 2010 In february he was banned for four years after he failed his drugs test in november 2009. Ev (Peachy) I don't mind Cheryl either. I do like how she faces up to all criticism and has a backbone to shrug bitchy comments and jealousy off. I take my hat of to that trait. [ more ]

Liverpoollass Reference: Garage Joe online 7,451 Forum Posts Today at 1:05 PM Last Edited: But surely that applies to most women at that X Factor end of showbiz. I think that she has done pretty well for herself. When you see the return of Sharon next Saturday you'll understand how much worse it could be. No doubting she has done well for herself and as you say the return of Sharon will show how much worse it could be. [ more ]

Gloria Stuart (Titanic) has died aged 100
brisket Fascinating - and thank you El Loro. [ more ]
El Loro Gloria Stuart had a very long film career. Onr of the major highlights from the 1930s is Gold Diggers of 1935, a Busby Berkeley spectacular. Although Gloria Stuart did a song with Dick Powell (I'm Going Shopping with you), that is not available on Youtube. Instead I have posted from that film The Lullaby of Broadway (which is sung by Win Shaw). This is an extraordinary routine. Because of it's length the clip is in 2 parts. The first part is setting the scene for the second part (without... [ more ]

Football question re: The Champions League.
Garage Joe Reference: I support neither team particularly but Barcelona versus Arsenal at the Emirates year after year? Oh yes. But what happens when one of 'em goes through a bad patch as they will eventually. (Actually I can't remember Arsenal going through a bad patch but you know what I mean) [ more ]
bateman Yes. The football available to see is (almost) uniformly better. People remember the classic match ups from yonder year fondly....and forget all the dross. I support neither team particularly but Barcelona versus Arsenal at the Emirates year after year? Oh yes. [ more ]
Garage Joe All sorts of complex reasons are involved. I agree that the best competition consisted of the winners entering a knock-out competition whilst the First Division (in old money) continued to play 42 games mostly on a Saturday at 3pm. At some point the people who wish to make the most money decided that we should have a pan European competition cosisting of all the best European teams........ and Paris St Germain. To get people used to this idea they brought in a Champion's league system with... [ more ]

Fashion - 1950s > 1980s > now
Karma_ I love clothes and fashion and shoes and Vogue and all that gubbins But it's so easy to utilise something you already have in the wardrobe if you want to keep in trend. I do think some people go completely OTT with it but that's their choice I suppose. What's great now though is where more designers are now working with chains it makes their stuff even more accessible at a reasonable price, while still getting the quality. Debenhams are fab for that sort of thing. [ more ]
brisket I remember some years ago throwing away all my broad ties. Then they appeared all over again. Annoying. But it is as you say Karma.....things come back. [ more ]
Karma_ Reference: There's not much that is original nowadays - most of it is copied from the past. That's how it goes though, it always comes back again, just usually with a twist. Key colours are the same, that's why I'll never understand these net-a-porter women with more money than sense who throw everything out just to keep up with what Vogue say is on trend. Most accessories and shoes are timeless and can be used over and over cos guaranteed a style or colour will be in season again within 2... [ more ]

Alex Reid-the fight of my life.
kattymieoww An interesting fact about fighting was stated on QI the othjer night. There were no deaths in the boxing ring until gloves were used. When they used to fight bare knuckled they did not strike the face or the head because they would more than likely break their hands or fingers. The introduction of boxing gloves allowed multiple blows to the head, that's where the damage was done. All credit to him, he lasted the full 5 rounds and he took a hammering but was still standing at the end of it. It was all but a given he was gonna be out by the 2nd round but he fought a bloody good fight and proved his place. I've seen quite a few MMA fights live (in the venues) but that was the most incredible one I've seen yet. Tom Watson is a fierce component and Reid shocked 90% of the viewers, both... [ more ]

Blackpudlian Reference: Loved them until I became veggie I even used to make shaped sandwiches with pastry cutters to make them more interesting That reminded me of the Midsommer Murders episode when the creepy, incestuous, blackmailing undertaker offers DI Barnaby & Sergeant Troy a platter of sandwiches when he had cut the butties into clubs, spades, diamonds & hearts and they were filled with fish paste and marmite and other tempting morsels. Old School...
El Loro Some really old school music: Arthur Rubinstein playing Liszt' Liebestraum number 3: The original version of Kurt Weill's Mack the Knife (sound only). It is sung by Kurt Weill in 1928, hence the poor quality. It is of course in German. And even older. From 1927 Al Jolson in The Jazz Singer - the very first sound film. So not to give offence, this is not the infamous scene where he is blacked up, which may have been acceptable then but is totally unacceptable now. The quality is poor. [ more ]

brisket Thank you for the reminder and suggestions. I think I should re-jig the categories - for example, as Suzi-Q has suggested the leading lady kind of actress who doesn't fall into the 'strong womewn' category. I'll give it more thought. I appreciate all your posts. Thanks. [ more ]

Suzi-Q How about a leading man? Of course, Cary Grant would win hands down, but could include Rock Hudson, Gregory Peck. Clark Gable. Then of course you would have leading ladies - Deborah Kerr, Julia Roberts, Sally Fields. And not forgetting the great character actors/actresses - Liz Smith. Judy Densch, Maggie Smith. [ more ]

EASTENDERS: WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!
The Devil In Diamante Reference arlo Oh yes Rachel Leskovac, she was fab in Holby City as the serial killer nurse Kelly Yorke Was that years ago? The Devil In Diamante Reference: Not in the same league as Dev mind. However the bloke who plays Nick is far and away the butt ugliest on the tellybox, and for that Corrie should be proud. Yes, he is ugly isn't he...as for Dev, how he's managed to steal a living is beyond me...... Reference: And did ya ner that the woman who works in the vets with Paddy (Marlon's GF) is Cain Dingle's wife in RL? But it's the old school actors who are the best. Karma_ Reference: ut, by far the worst Actress on TV has to be Holly out of Emmerdale....every line she delivers is unconvincing and sounds wrong... Nick Tilsley is another one who has that kind of 'straining for a poo' expression. I think overall, Corrie have better actors than Eastenders, although Emmerdale have some good actors too.
