Celebrity Big Brother 2018
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Re: Celebrity Big Brother 2018 [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Now that you can review the final viewing figures, as Saint quite rightly points out, this was the least watched final. Still not heard any news on renewal beyond 2018. I did read that C5 may look to cutting the budget if it were to continue on for future series. I was staggered by how many people were involved in producing the show. My BIG HOPE is that they cut the budget, cease the zelebrity version, stop using contestants who have had previous TV or magazine exposure, get in 'ordinary'... [ more ]
Saint No thanks Baz - I don't like Italian food Just looks like they aren't investing or interested in the show There is always a coming out party [ more ]

El Loro WWTOAM was devised by David Briggs who had devised a number of the promotional games for Tarrant's breakfast show on Capital FM radio. That's why Tarrant became the presenter. [ more ]
Saint Why is Chris Tarrant famous? What was his original skill that set him apart from others? P.S. I hate him ... and well done to his neighbour who shopped him to the Police for drink driving. And well done to his wife for taking him to the cleaners. Tarrant - it's you that's 'run the course' [ more ]

Robot Wars axed - again
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities 100% Agree. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Well, Baz: the #BringBackRobotWars suggests their actively looking for a new home, so that's encouraging. I just hope that they find one on Freeview... After it got axed the first time it had a brief spell on C5, but I'm not sure they could afford it now. I'm guessing part of the current problem is that the BBC is finding it too expensive, but I really thought that the most recent series of Robot Wars had hit its stride and was starting to expand out to a wider audience. T here were also... [ more ]

Matt celebrates 30 years
Eugene's Lair I think there are two main reasons why we've never had a proper modern version of Spitting Image: firstly, it was hideously expensive to make (between 200 and 300 grand an episode - in the 80s!); and secondly those trying to remake it didn't really understand why it was popular in the first place. There have been several attempts at reworking SI over the years, e.g. 2DTV, and the makers would always claim that they were "correcting the mistakes Spitting Image made", which seemed to translate... Lewis Gilbert, film director, has died
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I love the soundtrack by John Barry and like a number of Moore films I take them with a pinch of salt and enjoy then for the nostalgia of first seeing them as a kid. [ more ]
Yogi19 Some great films, and he lived to a good age [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Well, I'd probably cast a veil over "Moonraker"... That said though, it's an astonishing body of work. I was just having a quick glance through IMDb, and there are a number of notable films where he has writing as well as directing credits, e.g. "The Admirable Crichton". RIP. [ more ]

Baz Re: Jóhann Jóhannsson: Award-winning Icelandic composer dies aged 48 [ more ]
Eugene's Lair As it happens, I saw "The Mercy" last night. It not exactly the cheeriest of movies anyway, but knowing that the soundtrack was one of Jóhannsson's last brought a lump to the throat. (I believe his very last soundtrack was for "Mary Magdalene", which is released next month.) [ more ]

The Fall singer Mark E Smith dies aged 60
Amythist The Fall were an essential part of our pre going out rituals at one time....putting on make up ,choosing clothes and generally getting excited about the weekend! Totally Wired was a song I remember...they were different and were ahead of the game and not afraid to take risks, didnt compromise and sell out ..bands and people like Mark E Smith are rare gems in a sea of plastic [ more ]
Saint Oh I think they would have formed [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Wiki lists a number of bands who've acknowledged The Fall's influence on their work, including Pavement, Happy Mondays, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, These New Puritans and LCD Soundsystem. Many of them have covered Fall songs at some point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...%28band%29#Influence I don't think I'm stretching it to suggest you can detect hints of Smith's darkness, edginess, and even humour in some of those bands, however I also think you have to be careful about reading too much...
