El Loro This is a warning about Eastern Promises. I cannot be certain about this as I did not choose to see this film yesterday. However I understand that there is a sex scene involving an underage prostitute in which she is fully nude. As far as I can tell from the IMDB website the actress who played the prostitute was at the time either 15 or 16. El Loro The majority of the films from the BBC are from BBC Films, I think. But The History Boys is the only film which comes from BBC Two Films. Some films are in the name of the BBC. One of the more suprising films from them is the Sam Raimi film "A Simple Plan" which I rate as the best American film of the 1990s. He is best known for the Evil Dead films and the Spiderman films, but this is his finest film in my opinion - a modern morailty tale on what greed can do to ordinary people. [ more ]

El Loro Considering I'm a film fan, I have to confess that I've never seen Brokeback Mountain as it seems rather depressing. But there are so many films to choose from and I tend to watch films which fit my mood at the time. There's many famous good films I've never seen such as Titanic, Jaws, Saving Private Ryan as I have chosen not to. Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Not true, Some studios including Warner Brothers make region free BD's, not all I grant you, but there are a lot out there. The speed of boot-up has got progressively better with each release and firmware update. It's not so bad now. I am not sure what you refer to as hidden surprises. If it's just DRM, then I don't see where your problem is, not unless you want to pirate the discs - well do you? BD will not fail. It is growing at a faster rate than DVD. BBBS whilst i accept that br has progressed quite a lot its only now with the latest discs and players even getting close to what hd-dvd was from the start but still with one huge minus point, hd-dvd was region free br isnt on the plus side it means that films that were out on hd-dvd can easily be picked up worldwide, dont get me wrong we do have br players (the panasonic ones with divx) but we can still be watching an hd-dvd disc whilst its br equivalent is still booting up, the fact that br... Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Hi, I was quite surprised by your post. HD-DVD has been discontinued for a very long time now. I have to disagree with you but the quality of Blu-ray films is excellent. The encodes are so much better now that studios have got into their stride. You should see the remastered Bond films (superb for their age). Films like Wall*E are breathtaking. I would argue strongly that Blu-ray films now surpass HD-DVD in everyway. Belle if you only have one, i think it should cover many emotions, so it has to be funny, sad, enriching, thought provoing, etc. i really like billy elliot. i don't know why but the very last scene where he is the swan... ooh it makes me well up with happiness. there is the pain and comedy too. yes, this would be my film of choice. KAT-KILLER I wouldn't go to such a place. They would have to drag me kicking and screaming! Probably, Dr. Zhivago because it's simply amazing or Fahrenheit 451 which I could memorize and describe to the people living in that bleak, movie-less place. [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities El Loro, I was lucky enough to see a screening of The Passion of Joan of Arc in Sheffield Cathedral back in 2008. The film was accompanied by a specially written score by the Sheffield band In The Nursery (I recommend checking out all of their soundtracks). Where do you (mostly) watch movies?

El Loro I watch the majority of films either on television or DVDs. I noticed Well-Wisher's comment on lack of films which can be legally downloaded. There's the 4 on demand site which has an interesting range, but is limited in number. There is also the ability to download films from Lovefilm. At present this is in a beta state and the range of films is very limited - mainly old films. But there are some out of the ordinary such as the latest Peter Greenaway film and Bathory with Anna Friel. At... [ more ]
Mercedes78 I like going to the cinema, we have one in our town, so if there is a film i like in the cinema i'll go, it takes me half an hour on the bus into town, and it's mostly empty in the day when kids are at school, my hubby buys dvd's because we hardly go together. [ more ]
Suzy I love going to the cinema.Here in Liverpool we have the FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology)they show a wide range of films and have exhibitions and guest directors sometimes. No yobs throwing popcorn or inane chatter,comfy sofa's.You can drink alcohol if you want too whilst watching,all in all a nice experience and a good night out. I do own lots of dvd's though. [ more ]

El Loro A postscript to my earlier posting for anyone who is interested. Throne of Blood is Kurosawa's version of Macbeth. Don't be put off by the title which sounds as if the film is some low budget horror film, it's probably the best Shakespeare film made. Ran is also by Kurosawa and is his version of King Lear. Ivan's Childhood was the first key film from Andrei Tarkovsky. [ more ]

Well-Wisher After doing a proper headcount, I realize that I have more than I thought, I have 511 feature films,all of which I've watched a few times. I don't think I would want to list them all on the internet,though. It looks very time consuming. Due to budget restrictions I only buy about 5 or 6 movies a fortnight so it will probably take me a while to get up to the 700 mark. *edit* I've just registered with DVDAF so, when I've managed to list all my DVD's I'll post a link.
