Demantoid God.... my family is famous for festive flare-ups. The worst one was 1989, when I didn't speak to my mother for almost a year afterwards Nothing compares to that, but she's grown up a bit since then [ more ]
Former Member I remember one Christmas my Grandad came over for drinks and we played a Question of Sport, the board game. Anyhow it was close to the end and my Grandad wasn't doing too well and one of the answers he gave was wrong....well when I say wrong...it wasn't the answer that was on the card But he tried to tell us he had given the right answer that the game was wrong anyhow, he completely lost his temper, told us it was a stupid game...and stormed out of the house We have never played the game since [ more ]
Puss I remember being at my aunties on Boxing Day (as was the norm) I must have been about 9, was having a good old boogie with my cousins and all of a sudden WW3, apparently my dad overheard his mother say that ' her! she'll be in trouble before she is 18' and you know what trouble that mean't!! must have been that secshy dance I had perfected off Top of the Pops [ more ]

Yellow Rose Reference: I too don't like them using live animals even insects etc Same here, I have to leave the room as it disgusts me that creatures are used for entertainment, it doesn't entertain me, I prefer the other tasks. It's always surprised me the Australians allow a a tv crew and all their entourage to go into a natural habitat and allow them to kill so many insects or eat live ones, If a complaint has been made I hope action is taken to stop it in the future. Let the Producers come up with... [ more ]

Rod Stewart: One Night Only
Former Member Reference: went for the menopause market Crossy!...... Loved him for as long as I can remember, seen him more times than I can count, both here and abroad. Thought tonight's show was great, apart from that bloody Penny Lancaster, why does she always have to get her backside onto the stage? [ more ]
Kaffs Reference: Rod was fantastic as I knew he would be! He still has what it takes! I think he gets better looking as he gets older. My fave song of the night "I don't wanna talk about it" my all time favourite Rod song! Agree with every single word, Nana! I loved how he was gutted at having to take Penny to the doctor's when Gordon Strachan was visiting! [ more ]

Bonkers people who phone in radio shows.
Moonbeams Reference: Dublin was suffering a water shortage last year so it was considered that we should perhaps take water from the Shannon River (over the west). The country folk were up in arms (Dublin isn't popular with the farmers ) and refused point blank (like it was their river!) anyhow last month a huge storm hit, the Shannon overflowed and thousands of homes were destroyed And still they keep it. Anythings better then helping the Dubs. *spits* [ more ]
Garage Joe The "We need ter mek more rivers!" is already being used as our new catchphrase everytime they mention Copenhagen on the voicebox. We always listen to the J. Vine show [ more ]
Leccy Reference: I was once listening to a local radio phone-in, when I realised that one of the callers was a woman I used to go to discos with. She had been a right little raver in the past, but here she was on the radio ranting on about how she had turned to God, who had forgiven all her sins, etc. It was really weird. That's spooky, I went to college with a born again Christian woman (that's how she described herself) and she said she was drunk in a nightclub when God spoke to her and said he... [ more ]

nanalou Back in the 1979's when my kids were little...we lived in a cul de sac whichad around 26 houses. Christmas Eve/ Christmas morning three of the houses were burgled and all the childrens presents were taken. One family only had one little boys the other two families had 2 or 3 children each. Virgin Network!
♥PinkBabe1966♥The Angel under the tree! I must be lucky or something because I have never really had problems (touch wood) in the 6 years we have had Sky, customer services are a bit poor lately, I think they have gone offshore for the call centres, but everything else has always been fine. SIL has got Virgin and has had some problems, lost everything for most of last night (West Midlands) and so did her son, (Newcastle), so it must have been a nationwide thing. [ more ]
sandra i've been with virgin for 13yrs one day a sky canvasser came , sweet talked me into changing ............ BIG mistake , it cost me over £250 for two days of sky plus £13.90 for cancelling in the agreed time plus £30 for the box i no longer have but they left the bliddy dish i missed virgin , never had a problem and i missed catch up tv , sky customer service is atrocious [ more ]
Scotty Reference: LGS Scotty u is in Scotland aren't ya? Aye LGS. I believe it was a nationwide problem. On my first call the machine voice gave some effected areas by name..mainly England. Next call gave a postcode near me..about half a mile away. Next call was my exact postcode. It was sorted by 8.30 so no problem really. [ more ]

Are Teachers really as thick as Pigshit?
fabienne Judging from what my son tells me about his teachers, and judging from his results, his teachers are on the whole better than the ones I had 30-odd years ago. Back then, most of them scared us half to death, so that we were not exactly receptive to learning. Others simply dictated notes to us ad nauseam . From observing my son's education, I gather that nowadays teachers do much more than rigidly stick to textbooks, and try to make subjects more relevant to real life. [ more ]
Former Member Some teachers teach and others lecture - I've got an example of this with my psychology teacher atm - her lessons are boring and dry and I'm so close to giving up because I hate her teaching style. As a teacher myself, she's the worst kind but she's not thick just lazy. The same generalisation of teachers that the OP has made could just as easily be applied to some of the parents of children in school that I've come across over the years. I've generally found that on the whole the children... [ more ]
Trixy I think you are mistaking intelligence for common sense. Teachers are highly intelligent (they have to be or they wouldn't be qualified) but as with all people some lack common sense. It certainly applies to your example. [ more ]

Don't feel as though I have a dad any more
Karma_ Reference: people, if you're parent (who you love) is slowly being manipulated away from you, you need to fight fire with fire. I am a person now who believes in ME & MINE first, everybody else second. I lost my family because of manipulation & lies. Now I wish I had got in there first & controlled the situation my way. Fair enough but I dont think threatening the woman in her wheelchair will do anyone any favours. [ more ]
Former Member I agree a lot with what Frosty has said Blondie. However, I would not stop until I have personally spoken to your dad alone. I have to say I'd be concerned as to why you can't get through to him without her needing to be within earshot. I think Frosty's idea of booking a cheap hotel/BB over a couple of days is a good idea and then phoning to say you are coming over in one hour is also good. It is possible he is with her for company and there's nothing wrong with that and as others have said,... [ more ]
SazBomb Reference: Blondie, I really feel for you, as you obviously love your dad and want what's best for him. I think I would try to have a chat with him and explain, gently, how you feel. I would avoid any criticism of Joan as he probably doesn't want to hear anything negative about her. I would just concentrate the conversation on how sad you feel about this gulf which seems to have developed between you. I agree with Yogi... a little chat to tell him that you miss him and would like to spend... [ more ]

Blanche from Corrie (MAGGIE JONES) dies in real life
darloboy (Play The Game!) Such a shame and so sad . RIP Maggie . Blanche was such a funny character and the best thing about Corrie, funny thing is that Maggie herself doesn't find Blanche funny and said if she did then she wouldn't have understood the character as much as she did . [ more ]

Bankers
Kaytee First of all you have to get rid of the 'Old Boys' network, the City is infested with it. Then you have to slash the bonuses paid to some fairly incompetant directors Hopefully they'll resign Then those who really do the work can perhaps be rewarded and some of the able people will smash the glass ceiling and come through [ more ]
cologne 1 I agree brisket and so does Vince Cable, a man who is economically the most astute politician we have at present. I'm sure there are excellent people out there who would do the job and other countries might follow suit anyway. [ more ]
Teddy Bleads Financial services is one of the biggest industrys in the country. It's a major revenue earner for the exchequer. The worry is that if we stop paying them as much they will move abroad taking their tax revenue with them. If all the talent is working out of Zurich or Bonn say, then it would make sense for the financial institutions who are based in London ( and paying tax - we hope!) will follow suit so as to get the best people. This, plus all the knock on spending these bankers do ( on... [ more ]

These RBS bonuses, what's your view?
Garage Joe Reference: If I did not perform in my job I would be out on my ear, how can they get a bonus for letting the country down? Because that's how their contract is written up. Change someone's signed contract and you will be paying them a much more significant amount. (Karlo warned you all this would happen) [ more ]
LGS I do agree the amounts a ludicrous slim, I really do and I think they should be capped to a certain amount and I can't quite believe I am playing devils advocate here, cos 2 years ago I'd have had the same view as a lot on here, but circmstances have changed my perception a little, maybe I will come back to my senses one day [ more ]
slimfern I can totally understand where you're coming from Sunset.... But theses bonuses are ludicrous....Yes maybe give em summat because they are contracted...but the amounts are just taking the pee!! Your husband works bloody hard for his money..& stresses over whether he has work to go to alot of the time.....it just smacks as bloody unfair to me! [ more ]
