Rick Parfitt rip
Syd I didn't know him, but, he livened up a few of my nights out with his tunes... At least he made his mark and made us smile..... RIP......xxx [ more ]
Garage Joe Of course I'm old enough to remember buying Pictures of Matchstick Men. A lovely new sound at the time. They could obviously play in spite of all the boogie nonsense in latter years. Later one of my school friends was a groupie who followed them around before changing to Mott the Hoople. All underage stuff - she was mature beyond her years. But as I became wiser I realised it was particularly naughty on their part and lost all respect for these bands. I'm sure it happened all over but I... [ more ]

Rexi It was always going to be Gary or Ellie, then the beardy man came good at the end, which made the final really exciting. On the night Gary was the most deserved winner, he really deserved it WHat is absolutley lovely is that all three of them are utterly lovely people, all winners [ more ]

The Co-op has recalled all its Santas
El Loro It's hard to see how this could have happened by accident, The police have been informed of this. It seems that the Santas were manufactured in Germany so the tampering could have been done there rather than in this country. [ more ]
Lori Could it be anything else? I'm trying to think how that could happen by accident... That's pretty awful. [ more ]

MSM
pirate1111 probably report on what happened but not automatically blame refugees, as it turns it WAS a refugee but the DM really winds its readers up with bile BEFORE they find out the facts. thats what gets to me the dm have already forked out 150 grand to one family cos katie gobkins said they were terrorists, with no proof then they had to apologise (in tiny print) to a student NUS girl saying she supported isis-she didnt-dunno if they had to pay her anything then, this is the best bit, dm sales... El Loro The oifficial trailer for Moulin Rouge, the 1952 film about Toulouse-Lautrec, the best film that Zsa Zsa Gabor was in. Although her character is seen singing, that's not her voice - she was dubbed by Muriel Smith. [ more ]

John Glenn death: Pioneering US astronaut was 95
Yogi19 Sounds like an exceptional man. RIP John. [ more ]
Kaffs Aw..that's so sweet. Thanks for the Eugene - very interesting. What a man. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair I believe they were childhood sweethearts. I first became aware of Annie Glenn through the movie "The Right Stuff" (which I strongly recommend if you haven't seen it). They've clearly been exceptionally close: Annie is a stammerer, and John was always very protective of her. If the movie is to be believed, the other wives of the Mercury astronauts also became very protective, to the point that they snubbed the then-vice president Lyndon Johnson because Annie wasn't able to talk to him! As... [ more ]

Garage Joe v Enthusiastic Contrafibularities
Garage Joe It's all cautious at the moment. Wednesday usually beat us and I'm sure if they go all out attack they may be successful. A replay would be quite acceptable. An overnight stay in a suitable Premier type Inn within staggering distance of the Tap is just what the Doctor ordered. [ more ]

Peter Vaughan: Thrones and Porridge star dies at 93
Garage Joe Even though he was in only three episodes we always called him Grouty even in GOT. There aren't many actors who retain their character names apart from Bobbie, Ruth, Harry and Tom. I'm sure you have your own. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Yes he did Baz. Despite so few appearances in the series I seem to recall first seeing him in Porridge. [ more ]
El Loro RIP Peter The first time I saw him was probably in a 1962 BBC series of Oliver Twist - he played the part of Bill Sikes. Over the years he was in other BBC adaptations of Charles Dickens - Great Expecatations (1967), Bleak House (1985), Our Mutual Friend (1998) Exceptional as the father of Christopher Ecclestone's character in the BBC series Our Friends in the North (he was nominated as best actor in the BAFTAs for that). El Loro If anyone missed the episode of Fawlty Towers shown yesterday evening it's on the BBC iplayer for the next 29 days: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e...mmunication-problems [ more ]
Garage Joe Surely for sheer cheek one can't beat today's Daily Mail cover. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Yes, I agree Vids, couple of buffoons, having said that I never liked Brand and as for Ross I lost any interest I had in him after that. However when the story broke I researched the girl in question. Calling her career "Burlesque" was being very kind indeed. Having said that, they should not have done what they did to Andrew Sachs a complete lack of respect for him and his extended family. [ more ]

Rillington Place?
Eugene's Lair As others have said, Richard Attenborough (along with John Hurt, who got a BAFTA nomination), was always going to be a tough act to follow. I thought Roth and Morton were very good (she was also one of the best things in the recent "Fantastic Beasts", with a rather dark role in that too), but at the end of the day it's still a deeply depressing telling of a deeply unpleasant story. I suspect that the next episode - which concentrates on Timothy Evans - will be rather difficult to watch... [ more ]

Kaffs I've got it recorded, but from what I've seen on Twitter Tim Roth and Samantha Morton were brilliant. I love Tim Roth, so I'm looking forward to it. [ more ]

Breast flash GMP police chief committed 'gross misconduct'
Garage Joe Surely a non-story, an example of high jinks and another example of society controlling women. Anyone making a fuss about this should try visiting York on a Saturday afternoon. Can you imagine how they would have dealt with LBJ and his cock on the table approach? [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities To be honest I have been full of cold so my extended stay in bed was more necessity than want No gigs lined up at the moment. I would have seen the League on Dec 4th but I don't like big arenas much prefer the smller venue. I did catch a bit of them and its about promoting thier new acoustic album, which I will buy when it inevitably hits the 2 for £15 section in HMV. [ more ]
