Bronski Beat keyboardist Larry Steinbachek dies at 56
Eugene's Lair Yeah: saw this last week. Like many here, Bronski Beat were a huge part of the 80s for me. Funnily enough I was thinking about them recently because BBC2 showed the film "Pride" over Christmas, and the centrepiece of that film was a reconstruction of the "Pits and Perverts" benefit gig for the striking miners that Bronski Beat headlined in 1984. It's very sad news, and as others have said, 56 is nothing... [ more ]

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Chubby doesn't shy away from sharing his outlandish views, sailing so close to the mark even the most seasoned of fans will be left gobsmacked! As politically incorrect as ever and far too hot for telly, the live stage is the only place you'll see this flamboyant comedian. If easily offended, please stay away! [ more ]

Nigel Farage!
Carnelian I'm sure they're not, but if you're insinuating those are qualities I have, then maybe! But those qualities are relative to the power someone has. A three year bully arsehole really has power over other three year olds and under but no power over anyone else! Still, I'm not a c*** thin skinned racist demagogue t*** of the highest order like Farage. [ more ]
Yogi19 Very true, Baz. [ more ]
Baz I don't think those qualities are restricted to Farage .... or even to politicians [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I had one at work this week from Nigeria. As you say the spelling was hilarious, they even tried to double bluff by making out this is not a scam and that the money I needed to send to release the £273 billion from a frozen bank account had already been paid by my 'bennerfactor' and all I now needed to do was send my bank details. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Oooh.....I think I might actually have got one of those a wee while ago. I just laughed and ignored it. It was so obviously nonsence: Words missing, spelling errors, addressed to 'Dear customer' etc. Maybe I'll dig it out and send it to the fraud section! [ more ]

Human Interest Story: The guide dog that spies on people who ignore its owner
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I actually think this was the point, when things become different or changed from what is known is when help is needed most. [ more ]

Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Same here Baz. I understand it to a certain degree, but at what level do they consider people not wanting to intrude becomes being ignored? Though the rail station story certainly sounds like ignoring. [ more ]

How many more this year?
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Tyrus Wong, the artist whose works inspired the Disney film Bambi, has died aged 106 on December 30th. A Chinese immigrant, Mr Wong's vibrant paintings captured Walt Disney's eye and became the basis of the film's distinct style. In a statement, the Walt Disney Family Museum said "his influence on the artistic composition of the animated feature Bambi cannot be overstated." He died at home surrounded by his family. Heavens, they've managed to squeeze another one in at the last moment!!!!! [ more ]

Saint Every store has their merits I guess I love the set up at our local Tesco - it's rather nice The other day I was there and a young lad walked up to an older man who had already began work. The young guy looked decidedly underwhelmed to be there. "So you just about to start work?" said the older guy. "Yep" said the younger - looking bored. "Great - let's get ready to rock n roll" He really said that - rock n roll ... at Tescos. I bit my lip and walked away. [ more ]

The mystery of why you cant remember being a baby
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing I think I may have mentioned that I come from Clydebank too. My Dad's Aunts Lived in Helensburgh (their front room looked out over the beach) and my mum's uncles and an aunt lived in Dunoon and Inellan. [ more ]
Cold Sweat I have early memory of Helensburgh but perhaps aged 4/5. They had public trampolines on the waterfront during the summer which I thought very exciting! We holidayed in Clydebank (my parents’ hometown) and would drive up to Rosneath to visit family friends – very exciting; I got to experience trampolining and I got to see nuclear submarines on the Gare Loch and I can still vividly picture both! George Michael: Pop superstar dies at 53
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Sounds like he was working on a new album as well as the documentary so I expect to see releases in the new year. From what I have read the doc was having the finishing touches put to it so that sounds like it was just about done. I hope any new material that was being put together for a new album does not end up in the same mess as that dreadful Michael Jackson album. [ more ]

Saint Yes - Christmas went off without a hitch - which was nice. My parents came out with two comments of near genius during Xmas day. Completely out of the blue, suddenly - Dad: "So I've been thinking, Jewish people have been persecuted throughout history. Why??" . . . . I was like as I chewed on a sprout. Mum: "I wonder if the birds taste the stuff we throw out for them and sometimes think, 'Nah'." Me: Merry Christmas (I think) [ more ]
