Cariad Reference: Cariad, so does that mean then that all the food we tasted would be horrible anyway, so therefore even less of a good experience Noooooo!!!!! It just meant that SOME of the food on their plates didn't taste as good as the visual expectation it engendered. We are so driven visually and by smell sometimes what we actually taste has more to do with that than what our tongues are actually telling us. Once blindfolded all they had to go on was smell and taste. So bacon may not be as... [ more ]

The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan
brisket Staggering that nothing is done. Are the rich powerful people responsible for bachabaze so scarey and intimidating. Scenario: I ccould visualise if it was this country there would be an outcry - aided and abetted by the News of the World - accusations of paedophilia, and strong threats of lynch mobs and gangs taking the law into their own hands. But in Afghanistan (where many people fervently follow the laws of Islam) all is mostly quiet. It is not surprising I am gob-smacked by the... [ more ]

Ev (Peachy) Reference: nothing seems to be done about it, just beggars belief. This is what i find hard to stomach. Nothing seems to be done about it., when is any changes going to be made ... even a start to some changes in the right direction. Greed, power, control, all breed from their fears, and they think they can get away with it, yes get away with murder. When im in the right frame of mind , i may be rational and calm enough to view it in the right light. At the moment i am not. [ more ]

Karma_ Reference: I also had one for Ashes in a glass - a new way of keeping your cremated loved ones - I kid you not When I worked at local press years ago they ran a births, deaths and marriages section (the bit where people would congratulate any of the 3 with a paid advert). One bright spark of a new Publisher decided to set a sales target on the section and wanted the 'deaths' section to have more advertisers. Anyone else watch Nadia on This Morning today?
Suzi-Q I may be totally off the mark - I usually am - but I don't buy into the whole Nadia/celeberity wannabe scenario. Why? Granted, I don't buy any of the celeb mags, but I don't remember Nadia going that route. I don't remember Nadia appearing at the opening of every envelope in London - not like so many of the other formerr BB housemates. I have seen Nadia on a few BB related programmes, but not as much as I have seen other housemates (Brian Belo and Nicky Graeme). Yes, Nadia is a total drama... [ more ]
Former Member I watched it, and obviously they were told not to mention Coolio. I didnt understand her dig at Ulrika, when she said she was very camera savvy and had been around for a while. She said somewhere else that Ulrika called her a fat tranny or something, which if she is so camera savvy she wouldnt have said that. Anyway i agree with Olly,s post, Nadia just isnt what she thinks she is i.e some kind of superstar Maybe getting a real job will bring her back to earth...... [ more ]

Football question re: The Champions League.
Garage Joe Reference: I support neither team particularly but Barcelona versus Arsenal at the Emirates year after year? Oh yes. But what happens when one of 'em goes through a bad patch as they will eventually. (Actually I can't remember Arsenal going through a bad patch but you know what I mean) [ more ]
bateman Yes. The football available to see is (almost) uniformly better. People remember the classic match ups from yonder year fondly....and forget all the dross. I support neither team particularly but Barcelona versus Arsenal at the Emirates year after year? Oh yes. [ more ]
Garage Joe All sorts of complex reasons are involved. I agree that the best competition consisted of the winners entering a knock-out competition whilst the First Division (in old money) continued to play 42 games mostly on a Saturday at 3pm. At some point the people who wish to make the most money decided that we should have a pan European competition cosisting of all the best European teams........ and Paris St Germain. To get people used to this idea they brought in a Champion's league system with... [ more ]

Fashion - 1950s > 1980s > now
Karma_ I love clothes and fashion and shoes and Vogue and all that gubbins But it's so easy to utilise something you already have in the wardrobe if you want to keep in trend. I do think some people go completely OTT with it but that's their choice I suppose. What's great now though is where more designers are now working with chains it makes their stuff even more accessible at a reasonable price, while still getting the quality. Debenhams are fab for that sort of thing. [ more ]
brisket I remember some years ago throwing away all my broad ties. Then they appeared all over again. Annoying. But it is as you say Karma.....things come back. [ more ]
Karma_ Reference: There's not much that is original nowadays - most of it is copied from the past. That's how it goes though, it always comes back again, just usually with a twist. Key colours are the same, that's why I'll never understand these net-a-porter women with more money than sense who throw everything out just to keep up with what Vogue say is on trend. Most accessories and shoes are timeless and can be used over and over cos guaranteed a style or colour will be in season again within 2... [ more ]

Alex Reid-the fight of my life.
kattymieoww An interesting fact about fighting was stated on QI the othjer night. There were no deaths in the boxing ring until gloves were used. When they used to fight bare knuckled they did not strike the face or the head because they would more than likely break their hands or fingers. The introduction of boxing gloves allowed multiple blows to the head, that's where the damage was done.
