Former Member I hope it is a nice night for you and hope you realise your dreams hoochie My decade on the whole has been good. Some bad times but thankfully the good has outweighed them. I dont like to plan to far into the future, Im too superstitious but in the near future I would like to move, I feel ive outgrown the city that im in and everything feels like its coming to a place that I could draw a nice neat line under things and bring them to a natural end. How many Xmas cards did you get?
Rexi I know what you mean Jen ... when my three were at primary school we must have had over a hundred cards from school friends alone. East one had to be hung up - did my head in. I can't be bothered to count them, but it looks like we have about 30-40 up now ... much more manageable. My favourite card this year had a hand-written letter from a friend in it. Hand-written ... how lovely is that?? [ more ]
Jen-Star Too many!! Both kids get about 30 each at school, and all the ones from my friends and family! They do my head in, ive already put alot in recycling while tidying up over christmas [ more ]
Soozy Woo Reference: someone just told me they got a card saying they had to pay an EXTRA £1.06 They charge one pound as a handling fee. The card was obviously slightly larger than regulation and 6p underpaid. I think it's a bit mean spirited at this time of year especially. It takes an age to pay the extra online ......pages of bliddy stuff just to get a sodding Christmas card! We got two like that .............i wasn't going to bother when I got the third one - glad i did - it was the contracts to... [ more ]

When you find a song you really like, do you ever...
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities How could I forget the most recent song that I got hooked on. Normally I am not that taken with this guys work, but heard this track on late night TV and just played it over and over again. Mark Ronson & The Business Itnl - Bang Bang Bang (featuring Q-Tip & MNDR) . I think it has quite a hook to it, I also like the female vocal line and the fact that it appears to be in both English and French, but you can't quite tell. I also own the synthesiser in the first shot of the video - but... [ more ]

Primeval
Mount Olympus *Olly* oooh citing ..hope it's the same or similar writers cos am sure the Dr Who lot have changed hence the last series being 'a little bit shit' ©.. © Zaphod 2010 [ more ]
Carnelian Primeval was a great little show with quite good writing that carried the show along in an entertaining way, unlike those US sci-fi series that drag out their plots interminably slowly to ensure another season. A good bit of entertainment that isn't a singing or dancing competition is more than welcome. Good to hear Torchwood is coming back although I did get a bit bored with it in the end. [ more ]

Garage Joe Is it only me who finds Stacey's teeth somehow of the night? [ more ]
Marguerita Eastenders has never been my favourite soap bad over the top scrips and acting IMO but the actress who plays Stacey's mum is a brilliant actress, I never liked Staceys character but have to say she is also a brilliant actress and her leaving scene was brilliant. [ more ]

To travel from Edinburgh to Blackpool for Xmas?
Soozy Woo So glad it all worked out well in the end Hope you and your sister have a lovely time together. My mum should have been going to Kent (with my sister) for Christmas - it didn't happen due to adverse weather conditions! She came and stayed with me for one night on the 19th .............left her heating on timer and still had burst pipes and a flood! We're still sorting out. Chamberlain says "dont come out"
cologne 1 For what it's worth, I don't think it matters if a gay person plays a straight role or vice verse, as long as they do they're job and act. [ more ]
brisket Reference: Peter Cat Whether I "believe" it or not is down to their acting, not who they are. I quite agree Peter C You put me to shame, though, because I waste words waffling, while you are succinct. [ more ]
PeterCat Reference: If a gay person was cast in a love story with a member of the opposite sex, then I do think it would have an affect on the storyline. Sorry, Karms, but I think that's rubbish. An actor is, by definition, playing the role of someone they're not. Thus it shouldn't matter who they are irl. After all, we've had enough straight actors playing gay roles, ffs. Whether I "believe" it or not is down to their acting, not who they are. [ more ]

Good Book Recommendations
Soozy Woo The one book that I bang on and on about on any book thread is 'The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya sisterhood' a simply brilliant read (for women) I don't really think it's a mans cup of tea but i'd be interested to know if any men on here have read it. I really cannot recommend highly enough. My all time fave is 'A Star called Henry' by Roddy Doyle although I do appreciate that he is an acquired taste. [ more ]
Demantoid Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I read it while I was on holiday, and it's stupendous - totally deserved to win the Booker. Also, The Year Of The Flood by Margaret Atwood. [ more ]

What becomes of the Left-overs?
Former Member Cooked sprouts. mashed potatoes and some bacon made into cakes, using an egg and some flour to bind, then fry to seal for a couple of minutes, then the oven for about 20 , are lovely. You can add some grated cheese on top too . Made myself hungry now [ more ]
Former Member I froze the left over 3 layer nut roast we had in two lots so that will do us for some future dinners. I made spicy bubble and squeak stars with the left over sprouts and froze them too, all the kids love them when they are at mine and need lunch. My Mum was the best ever with left overs. We would always have something for dinner on Mondays made with the left over Sunday roast - course I wasn't vegan in those days! [ more ]
Soozy Woo Actually I wont be doing that! it boiled dry overnight I'm still learning with my slow cooker - only now do I remember reading that it shouldn't be used with cooked meat . There was a recipe on the net for making stock with the carcass though which i FOLLOWED 'c'est la vie'. [ more ]

New Year's Eve plans?
Former Member Can't think of anything much worse than being out and about and pushed and shoved amidst hoards of N Year's Eve drunken revellers, (must be my age, used to love it !!!) And so this was Christmas..
Former Member Twas lovely about a stone heavier and definitely caught up on my sleep. It went something like this ... Wake up> drink > eat> drink > take a snack and a drink to bed to watch telly > get up and open another bottle of wine that we decided we couldn't do again another night on the trot to drink in bed > Sleep. ...and repeat bliss. although tonight we might even go out a bit later blow away some cobwebs and dance the night away. Im child free and got a stone to boogie off. [ more ]

Mc Dermott wont watch Enders baby plot
SazBomb Reference: I think this is terrible writing from EastEnders, not due to the storyline but due to the character involved. Me too... chrissakes give Ronnie a break! [ more ]
Karma_ Meat n Veg I agree to an extent, I can't stand twee unrealistic shite either. But sometimes it's nice to see something good happen for a change. Ronnie's character seems to be on this constant rollercoaster of doom and it's just getting predictable and boring, I don't know if I will watch the cot death storyline tbh. [ more ]
Garage Joe We don't watch it since it says nothing to us about our lives but we caught the last few minutes before another prog last night. Didn't know who half of 'em were ! Corrie or Roots, as we call it, is better written and has lots of in jokes, tips of the hat to VIZ, and various hidden lyrics. [ more ]
