miniature camera attached to helmets or handlebars, to capture bad driving.
SazBomb Reference: I have been almost swept off my feet on a number of occasions by swooping cyclists. They don't even ring a warning bell these days. push 'em over [ more ]
brisket I am pleased that the cyclist in this case was (thanks to the camera) able to prosecute the van driver and win the case. As far as I know it remains illegal for people to cycle on footpaths and pavements. So how is it then, that in my area about 95% of cyclists use footpaths and pavements - even the one in front of the police station. This has gone on for years. It seems this is one law which is not strongly enforced. I have been almost swept off my feet on a number of occasions by swooping... [ more ]

Looks like the Aussies are in for more trouble
Yellow Rose From Sky News, very worrying. Australia has begun evacuating thousands of people from its northeastern coast ahead of a cyclone that could rival Hurricane Katrina in its destructive power. Cyclone Yasi has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm. Forecasters say it is likely to further strengthen and could generate winds of up to 175 mph before it hits land on Wednesday morning. An official warning has been issued saying it poses a "serious threat" to communities in north Queensland. More than... [ more ]

starbug15 Excellent point smarting buttocks. And I agree with you Issy: it's insane, the amount that footballers are paid. I can't see the justification in it. But then again, you could also say that film stars are not worthy of their £25 million to £40 million that they get, because if they weren't paid so much, it would be cheaper to get into the cinema. Then again, the actors that are paid a few tens of millions are usually ones who have been doing it for 15-20 years or more, and have earned their... [ more ]

Job centres!
SazBomb Reference: , the staff do seem to be human beings rather than jumped up twats. Reference: I agree with Carnelian that they don't seem to treat people like scum like they did in the 1980s They were jumped up twats that treated me like scum 5 years years ago Hopefully they are better now, what with more people being unemployed... I would like to go back and see that woman who told me my expectations were unrealistic though [ more ]
starbug15 I have mixed views. I agree with Carnelian that they don't seem to treat people like scum like they did in the 1980s (I was unemployed for half a year or so then,) but then again, they weren't helpful with me at all , when I went 2 years ago. Friendly, but not helpful. I had been made redundant from a firm after 10 years, (this was mid 2008,) and got 10 grand redundancy. Because of this I was not allowed to claim state benefits. I was unemployed (of course,) but not claiming anything. [ more ]

Good bye
starbug15 Hiya back Marguerita Aww, that is a shame when someone deregisters. I guess they have to ask the mods to do it for them. I hope Suzi is OK. I can only think something must be wrong, otherwise, if someone was just busy, and wasn't planning on posting for a while, why not just put a 'not posting for a while' type thread.. Oh well, I am sure she has her reasons. She does imply that she did it before though .. so maybe she will return. If you're reading this Suzi, don't leave it too long. [ more ]

kattymieoww RE the fish campaign, stocks of certain fish, cod, haddock etc are low, however allowing fishermen to fish in the same waters for "Sustainable" other fish, means that they are all caught in their nets and quotas which where introduced to help the declining stocks are worthless as all the rarer fish etc are caught as well, and returned to the sea dead .The fact that Fearnley wassname wants to be able to use the dead rarer fish, will just mean that either way,the stocks will decline. It's not... Karma_ I agree with Croc. You have a case to argue against the money back guarantee. The only problem will be unless it's in very, very small print somewhere at the checkout about the voucher thingy, even so though, it should be clear enough to see, you shouldn't have to go searching for it. If you get hassle, first stop is probably Citizen's Advice, then Trading Standards. Also, a very strong letter (mentioning Watchdog and National Press) is usually quite good. Tennis - Australian Open
Cold Sweat Reference: Andy Murray says the only way he can respond to suffering a third Grand Slam final defeat is by working hard to ensure he does better next time. The Briton lost 6-4 6-2 6-3 to Serbia's Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open to miss out on a first major title. And Murray said he felt "better" than in the aftermath of last year's loss to Roger Federer in Melbourne. "I want to keep working hard, try and improve," he said. The return of BB
Former Member Oooh, I hope it comes back. [ more ]
Smarting Buttocks I don't trust Richard Desmond. He manipulated the editors of his paper (denied by him as expected - proved in court by the Tom Boywer case), I suspect his version of BB will also be heavily be manipulated by him and his desire for an exclusive story for one of his publications. Former Member Reference: I'm with you, Issy. It was sad to see Big Brother go, but I got used to the idea, and now I'm not so sure I want to get sucked back in. Its a waste of energy getting cross about very silly people And if Davina is presenting it then I definitely won't be watching it. I could cope perhaps if it was Emma Willis and George Lamb. I loved the fact that George clearly took the mickey. [ more ]

Saturday night and ITV's a dead zone.
Former Member That sounds interesting Avalon - I'll have a go at that, thanks! As for Sat night telly, I haven't been interested in it for years. When I used to babysit my mates kids on a Sat night they used to watch all the light entertainment stuff and enjoy it but I couldn't get interested in any of it. Saturday is footie day in our house so we have the radio on all day and the phone in on fivelive goes on until about 9pm so we avoid the telly for the most part [ more ]
Carnelian Yeah, it's a bit rubbish, but it's been rubbish for ages. About two years ago it was blatantly programmed for women and there was nothing for men at all. All singing competitions, dancing competitions and housewives' favourites like Boyzone and Rod Stewart. Primeval is a good little entertaining show and Harry Hill is ok but can be wearisomely repetitive at times. I don't think the BBC1 is really any better. I never watch that old pot boiler, "Casualty", "Total Wipeout" is an inane kids'... [ more ]
Former Member There is an excellent drama on BBC4 on Saturday nights entitled 'The Killing'. Cagney Mine was when we were all younger. Mum, dad, 5 of us, the dog and the cat all in my dads old car. Big tent, camping chairs, food etc packed in the boot. We just headed off not knowing where we were going and ended up in London on a campsite. Can't remember the name of it now but I was sooo excited coz that's where East 17 were from.
