Why, if you're prominent, do you feel the need to go on Twitter?
velvet donkey I can safely say Duncan-Smith is the biggest prick this country has ever been unfortunate to know. So lets knight him. The funny thing is he does these interviews as if he was some grand sage. The media shouldn't entertain him. Scooby Doo would bite him in the proverbial dark alley. [ more ]
Carnelian I was on Twitter, but I got chucked off because when IDS got a knighthood I commented: "I hope he gets cancer". Of course, I didn't really wish cancer upon him but out of sheer frustration of a man who has presided over so much bullying of the critically ill (sometimes to their untimely deaths), people like him can only have empathy when they are in the same shoes. The judgement "to incite hatred" Of course, Twitter still platformed Katie Hopkins - a white supremacist hatemonger, Trump - a... [ more ]
Sprout Yes, it can be brutal, but there's also nice stuff posted on there too [ more ]

Is a coppers life more important than yours or mine or your family?
velvet donkey Lurking's not an offence. Not yet anyway I foraged into DS politics yesterday and I felt dirty. Dunno why but felt out of kilter. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Yes thanks, Velvet, I've been lurking a lot, but am conscious I should be posting more. I've been working from home since start of lockdown, but have been going back into the office 2 days a week for the last month. This month's likely to be busy, so be aware that any activity online here is likely to be in fits and starts. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing I too declined to sign that petition. I felt the reasoning behind the petition was very much a 'knee-jerk' reaction. [ more ]

Kate Middleton
Sprout Re: Kate Middleton [ more ]
Carnelian Owen Jones has highlighted how the English press has the knife in for Meghan and compliments Kate while chastising Meghan for the same behaviour. Of course, before Meghan, they had the knife in for Kate and before Dianna's tragic death they had the knife in for Dianna - big style! I like that Harry met a confident woman who with or without Harry was successful on her own terms from a humble background and has her own mind, ethics and spirit of her own. Kate, being a vapid facsimile of what a... [ more ]

Mandy (BBC Comedy)
Saint I don't really rate it as quality comedy - it's the kinda stuff i'd expect from a 6th form drama group Is it the best a corporation like the BBC can manage? I know comedy is subjective however. [ more ]
Eugene's Lair How so? The BBC's still producing a wide range of comedy - from "Mrs Brown's Boys" to "Frankie Boyle's New World Order"... [ more ]
Saint Can i counter with the most outlandish, innovative and downright hilariously bizarre GREEN WING https://www.channel4.com/programmes/green-wing Actor Mark Heap is truly amazing and unique and right up there with comedy greats like Kenneth Williams and Charles Hawtrey [ more ]

Dido Harding.
Carnelian ha, ha! I don't care what it's called. The Labour Party's function now is to be temporary placeholders for the Tories until business as usual Tory government regain power. If Bozo becomes unelectable, which is likely since he's so useless, the establishment and deep state want a b-team who'll hold the fort and not do anything that will frighten the elite until the Tories become electable again. [ more ]
Moonie New Labour? [ more ]
Carnelian I agree I was never a card-carrying Corbynite, I voted Corbyn over Andy Burnham at the very last minute. I abstained when he was challenged. At one point I thought "even Chuka would be better than this", however, I hoped the right of the party would get behind Corbyn after he did so much better than expected. Sadly, the right of the party dripped its poison and sabotaged the party and preferred a Tory government. I will not vote for Starmer. He stabbed Rebbeca Long-Bailey in the back. The... [ more ]

James O'Brien.
Carnelian James O'Brien is a dick, who behaves like ten a penny club bouncer throwing his weight around taking exaggerated offence over callers' mostly flippant provocation. That said, he is spot on about Brexit and hands Brexiter's their backsides on a plate. [ more ]

Mercedes paint their F1 car black.
Saint Tis interesting though that I have never seen Chinese or Pakistani minorities rioting or attacking the Police or wandering the street in gangs to attack other gangs I understand the reasons for this are complex and way beyond me ... but still very interesting Also the "black community" makes up 3% of the National population ... i was astounded at that [ more ]
Sprout Because black/brown people have been 'sat on' for far too long. Good on them that they've found their voices. I say again.....why should the colour of someone's skin matter? [ more ]
Saint I disagree - someone speaking out about racism in general or personal experiences throughout life would surely have support from someone like Mercedes - why would he not be supported? He didn't have to point a finger at anyone but what he did do was chose to remain silent . . . . until now [ more ]

Why is Zac Goldsmith in the house of lords?
Carnelian Because he's a racist penis. He won't have a dub collection, he'll have a collection the most rubbish of 80s chart music like Starship's "we built this city on rock 'n' roll" and classical music he pretends to like. [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I have checked this morning and yuo are spot on, it is Durian. [ more ]
El Loro Re Great British Bake Off currently being filmed at Down Hall Hotel near Bishop's Stortford. The filming is being done in the tents on the grounds there. I assume all those involved are staying at the hotel. The hotel itself has been closed to the public since the lockdown started. The hotel website shows that it's re-opening for the public on 21 August. So it's reasonable to assume that filiming on site is intended to have been completed before then. [ more ]

Dame Olivia de Havilland, who has died at 104 in Paris. Also Peter Green
El Loro My interest is mainly old/older films. Very little interest in modern films. So I'm more likely to watch something which Talking Pictures has shown, They showed the 1953 documentary "The Conquest of Everest" which was much better quality than for instance that availble on Youtube. Tonight very early in the morning they are showing "Taste of Fear" (1961). That was made by Hammer Films but is very different from what you think of as a Hammer film. Good but not in the same class as the 1955... [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities It so happens I do own that title @El Loro . In fact over the last year or so I have purchased almost every title from that company. I really do need a couple of years off work to watch them all. I have started to use their "bundle" offer, which applies to just the new release window and gives 10% off. When you add in the titles I pick up from Criterion, Arrow, Eureka and BFI, I'm swamped !!! I don't want to even mention the mainstream films I buy from the regular studios. The upside is,... El Loro If you've never seen the 1953 film "The 5000 Fingers of Dr T" you can get it from the same company: https://www.powerhousefilms.co...0-fingers-of-dr-t-le A children's film which was years ahead of its time and must have been an influence on people like Roald Dahl and Tim Burton. [ more ]

Sprout I don't hate life. I hate the shite state that this country's in now because of SOME people [ more ]
Carnelian life is all we've got unless we're in a giant Matrix-type simulated reality and maybe when we die, moments later we take the helmet off and remove the neural links and reflect on our experience in the simulation that lasted a few seconds in our real-life then go about our life in the real world before hitching our next Matrix-type simulated ride in the 31st century. Enthusiastic Contrafibularities In a bizzare twist of fate, I have spent some of this morning listening to old John Peel sessions. John Peel was by far and away the DJ I listened to the most on R1. Notably for his broad range of musical offerings. Carnelian mentioned Ed Sheeran. I was driving to work last week and a song of his came on (Perfect I thin it was called). Lyrically, it made me want to throw up my breakfast. I suppose there are only so many ways you can write a love song. *goes to listen to Simple Minds track... [ more ]

My dental hygienist appointment
El Loro I didn't experience any significant discomfort with the scraping and it's back to the method which was used before the modern ultrasonic tools. Manual scraping isn't so good though for people with weakened teeth or for people with heavily built up plaque. Though not a good idea to avoid appointment as would risk greater long term teeth problems. [ more ]
Lori I was just wondering about how these appointments would go, the other day. My regular appointment in February got rescheduled to April, and then, of course, canceled. Still waiting to hear from them to reschedule, but not looking forward to the surgical scraping. [ more ]
