KayteeAirline workers have had a poor deal……..they should have their reduction reinstated Rail workers have nothing much to complain about…….anyway, if they have a problem take it up with the owners, but down here there is no sympathy for them at all and the strike had little support and it was a bit of a damp squib [ more ]
Dame_Ann_AverageI'm 100% behind the airport workers and rail workers Velvet....enough of these thick barstewards taking the piss. The airport staff took a 10% pay cut due to covid, the airlines have so far refused to give it back to them even though restrictions are over. The rail strike is a completely different matter, private firms are walking all over workers and people accept is as if it should be the norm. While we have created more billionaires in the last three years, the rich have got wealthier by... [ more ]

SaintIt's good to share - I also wonder how many people's everyday struggles, we all face, are being interpreted as major issues now we have a culture of 'mental health madness' - for want of a better phrase and making them think they need help? Most people do not have mental health problems in the classic sense, everyone struggles, we all go though rough times and such people are hijacking centre stage at the cost of those with enduring mental health issues. Too much education? Or not enough... [ more ]

SaintSaid the same Velvy - Post Office has stopped accepting benefits payments, now it's direct to bank but if your bank is nowhere near how do you get your £££? Going to the local to withdraw was part of some people's routine kept or years and now to 'cut costs' people are being ostracised in their own community - they don't think about that [ more ]

Eugene's LairI'm going to hazard a guess that he didn't factor in the cost of the gas or electric required to cook it either. Common errors made by those who keep insisting the poor just need to learn how to cook and budget (and which the like of Jack Monroe keep having to correct) include: 1) Relying on bulk-buying. As you point out, those getting by week-by-week (or even day-by-day) can't afford to do that. 2) Not including the "hidden" costs, such as the gas/electric for cooking. 3) Low... [ more ]
Former MemberI was reading about this. He doubled down saying he has proof from the food bank that this is achievable. Said the bank made a meal for 50 averaging 30p a portion. So that’s: one food option only, no variety made using bulk quantities, not possible on a budget made using donated / out of date products no drinks or sides As they say in statistics, small samples give erroneous results. As my gran used to say, empty barrels make the most noise. 🤬 [ more ]

SaintI get it - I just got an increase last week - I have the paper in my hand right now - it's £69.70 And that is NOT per person I care for - it's for (and I quote the DWP when I contacted them) "Your out of pocket expenses and not an allowance per person" in my care. So I am paid £69.70 regardless of how many people in my care - that's my weekly 'wage' for 24hr care = 41p per hour (approx) [ more ]
