Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr on Channel 4
Syd If that is the kind of 'happiness' money can buy you, then I am glad I don't have much...... [ more ]
Jen-Star I watched a prog last night on BBC Millionaire gifts or something just as vulgar... Some 'anonymous' woman spent not far off 1 mil through a personal shopper on a suit (personalised fabric) shirt (with £12.000 each gold stud buttons) and a choice of 3 watches to go with the suit..... No idea why i watched it [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Thanks Jen, I may try and pick up some to try when there is an offer on. I don't have an Iceland near me only Waitrose. I'm sure I'll find them at some point. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Or as we called them as kids 'Snot Poodles' [ more ]
Jen-Star I really like the chicken (green one) with a little salt added, the pasta ones I've tried can be slightly hard still but I've only tried a couple of different ones. Had a chicken one this afternoon. Oh and they are 3 for £1 in most £1shops and Iceland [ more ]

A Shakespeare quiz
El Loro Fluffy, it was the last one that got me too though I admit the one about Lammas day was a guess. Easier for those in Scotland being one of the quarter days, but England has different ones. [ more ]
Dame_Ann_Average Shakespeare's Year "Wise enough to play the fool" You scored 6 out of 7 7: "Knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven"; 4-6: "Wise enough to play the fool"; 0-3: "There is no darkness but ignorance" I got the cold capon question wrong and I really dislike Shakespeare [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities 2 out of 7, but to be fair I know sh*t all about Willies work and every answer was pure guesswork, I say guesswork there was actually no guessing involved, just hit a button and hope. [ more ]

When Harry Met Sally 2 with Billy Crystal Helen Mirren
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I never do Baz. Used to go out as a youngster but realised it was no different from most nights out except they charge to get into the bars/clubs, there are balloons at midnight and the taxis home are usually double the price. I always expected something amazing to happen, but it never did. Then again, it's not really an English festivity is it. Never known anyone actually get that worked up about it. My friends are all away on a cruise at the moment. I'm in doing some Internet buying,... [ more ]
Baz You not out celebrating the new year EC ? [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities This is a bit of a spoof Baz. Although not high on my list of films, probably worth seeing it just to have seen it if that makes sense. [ more ]

BBC website down
El Loro Looks as if it was a web attack technique known as a "distributed denial of service" causing the patchy response. This aims to knock a site offline by swamping it with more traffic than it can handle. BBC yet to confirm or deny this. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Now, that's one benefit of me sleeping in late. [ more ]
El Loro EC, the BBC site came back just at the time you were looking at it. "Technical issues" made the BBC's websites intermittently unavailable on Thursday morning. The problems began about 0700 GMT and meant visitors to the site saw a message informing them about an "internal error". News stories and indexes either failed to appear or were occasionally viewable if users re-loaded them. A statement tweeted by the BBC's press office said the corporation was aware of the issue and was working to fix... [ more ]

Motorhead frontman Lemmy, dies aged 70
Garage Joe I did a bit of research and I'm not all that sure I've ever seen him! I saw Hawkwind many times in the early seventies right up to the Space Ritual tour but remain convinced he joined afterwards. However I have all of his gramophone records with both bands. Those times were exciting and he was a part of it all. [ more ]

Moonie Another character departs this world for that big metal gig in the sky I have seen Motorhead live twice. Had a great time both times [ more ]

GLAD that is all over for another year!!! - The thread which 98% of people miss the point or don't read the first post
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I hate them too Rexi and in fact tend to target the things I actually want. Today I have seen some ridiculously cheap prices for wrapping paper, cards and crackers. Now to me it would make sense grabbing them now as for a few quid you can have a lot of the bits and bobs you need for next year. [ more ]
Rexi I can't bear the sales ... I always feel totally shopped out by Christmas. However, yesterday mum and I decided to walk back from the theatre to the car via M&S food hall. They were selling off the last of their turkeys ... a £25 turkey for £2!! We can't face eating it yet, so I've chopped it into portions and frozen it! [ more ]

Gogglesprogs @ Xmas
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Come on FM's catch this on repeat, it was delightful. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Sorry Cinds, a little joke on my part that fell flat. :-( How GOOD was Gogglesprogs! I loved it. The comments and thoughts were great, better than the adult version. I liked to see the thought processes, their view on the world and the way they are so emotionally up and down. Some great one liners too. Frozen was mega popular with the girls. The programme with the baby elephants was such a good one especially when the baby elephants survied. ...I could go on. Brillant programme. :-) [ more ]

Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Not trying to be self centered but that is the kind of thread I love. Not checked the dates of postings but I suspect I may not have been a member at that point or I would have been all over the thread like a rash. Given that I don't have to go back to work now until 25th January, I shall have time to give it a good read through. [ more ]

Excessive Drinking: A Great British Problem
Rexi Excellent post Carnelian Exactly my take on the subject, but I would never have been able to write it so well [ more ]
Carnelian Thing is. What's self inflicted? You might say that respiratory problems are self inflected in people who smoke Heart problems in people who are obese, muscle, arthritis and bone fractures in people who do (especially extreme) sports, liver problems in people who bulk up with steroids and protein mixes, people who visit tanning salons, the sexually promiscuous, sex workers, people who abuse illegal, legal and prescription drugs, suicide attempts, people in occupations where they are likely... Fargo: Series Two
Sezit Well! All I can say is I loved it. The explanation of the spaceship came from my son. He said that from the very beginning there were subtle references to aliens and spaceships, like when Peggy ran over that guy. Stickers on the wall of the garage/shop. And the fact that it was a story being "narrated" from a book by Martin Freeman, who was in series one. It is a case of Chinese whispers. When we humans tell a story we all add bits and dismiss bits, and so consequently things are never... [ more ]

Eugene's Lair You rang? Yeah; I think my immediate reaction was that it was a tribute to "The Colbys". I was looking around fan discussion sites and the reaction's been a bit mixed. Most of the hard-core fans point out that it had been signposted earlier in the series. Also you've got to bear in mind that this set in 1979 - not long after "Close Encounters" came out, and at a time when there were infamously "real life" UFO sightings in North Dakota and Minnesota - something the Coen Brothers were clearly... Firefox - big news for those with 64 bit computers
Mount Olympus *Olly* Nah I'll go with Pale Moon if FF get even stricter, which is a lighter version of FF. .I have mine set up like the old IE with bookmarks in a sidebar etc... I like it that way and the add ons all still work in pale moon so no need for 'official signing' [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Or opt for one of the other browsers out there like Opera or a Tor browser, probably not a Tor browser. [ more ]
Mount Olympus *Olly* Watch out for your add ons if you upgrade to v43.. . FF have it set to disable any that have not been signed thru them, and lots haven't because the developers are 'revolting' against this rule and getting pretty narked at the way FF is going so some very good add ons are no longer available. I found a work around to re-enable one of my plug ins that v43 disabled by amending some of FF's code in the about:config section but the story is that the next version due out in a few weeks won't even...
