Yellow Rose Reference: Today at 02:54 (Edited: ) Reference: now I can't be bothered with it even though I've heard it's a good programme It is The storylines are not as gritty or real as EE or Corrie, but the acting is better. They seem to miss out on awards every year aswell, not fair I thought Emmerdale had recieved awards over other soaps the last few years, maybe I was wrong? My son watches it and tells me it's a great soap with some very good actors. We usually switch to the One Show at that time... [ more ]

Dirtyprettygirlthing I bet she didn't do the poaching herself! I love poached eggs, but I can never get them quite right at home. Shop eggs just aren't fresh enough.... I need to get me own chickens! *is aware this could swerve right back to the other topic at this point* [ more ]
Demantoid Reference: oops... this has gone off topic even for me! OK, back on topic, Cynthia Payne and her clientele preferred their eggs poached, on toast - that was supposedly what she served the blokes who came to her secs parties.. [ more ]

Political: Is Clegg becoming the victim of a smear campaign?
squiggle Reference: I agree GJ. Foot was a true Labour politician with the rights of the working man as his motivation. Benn was a very sincere man and I am told by someone who met him, a lovely lovely man. Powell was cruelly misrepresented when he was trying to give a warning about this country which he loved. And dear Ann Widdecombe who is a very able politician was, I believe, held back because she was not 'cute'. My opinion only of course. Prescott? Ahem, tiptoes quietly out of thread. Yes one of... Demantoid I've accused you of nothing. You stating "I'm not an idiot" would suggest you feel someone has either called you one, or implied you are. What I have said is, you're aggressive and I think the tone of your recent posts supports that view. By the way I "lived through" what your heroine Thatcher did to people at the sharp end of her policies, and know what happened there, too. ~shrugs~ Bye now [ more ]
squiggle I didn't for one minute mention that anyone had called me an idiot. I am merely stating that I am confident of my facts. It is a phrase, you know. If you wish to end the chat fine but please don't start throwing accusations about. [ more ]

Political leaders' TV debates
Baz I think that while I agree with Demantoid that they are very sanitized, I still find them interesting, and at least it has given the Liberals an equal airtime to the other two, which has to be good for our democracy. [ more ]
Garage Joe I agree with Gordon Spidermonkey. [ more ]
SpiderMonkey I predict a significantly higher voter turn out, thanks to these debates. I agree it does trivialise things, but it seems a lot of people need trivial, often quick and memorable sound bites, or they won't even bother voting on polling day. Remember that trust and belief in our political system has gone through the floor as a result of the economic crisis combined with political expenses and sleaze. This could by rights have been one of the lowest attended election in history, but now could... [ more ]

Catholic church lost all credibility
Demantoid Reference: They just don't get it do they? Denial, excuses and more denial. No self-blame. What a fine example of how to deal with guilt. And don't forget the 'global media conspiracy' to discredit them. [ more ]

El Loro See yesterday's BBC article about the Pope at least starting to recognise that penance is required. However it doesn't help matters when that Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said on Monday (also referred to in the article) that it was homosexuality - not the Church's celibacy - which lay behind the abuse of minors. I find that offensive rubbish and should be condemned by everyone as such (and I'm speaking as a straight man). [ more ]

BNP to consider Non White Members!
Eugene's Lair Reference Karma_ Today at 16:23: 'BNP to consider Non White Members' They can shove it up their rectum which is exactly what I told one of their canvassers today. Unfortunately, I'd only be able to manage a more subtle response - like politely pointing out that their leaflets still contain stock pictures of Italian pensioners, American workers and, of course, a Polish Spitfire... Who should be the next Government Poll
Demantoid Reference: At least we are happy with our lot, we don't moan, don't wear socks with our sandals, or have a daily crisis. Or if we do, it's our fault, not the single mum down the road, or the Polish bloke working a 12-hour day for minimum wage [ more ]

An idea about the polls here...
kattymieoww I couldn't vote on any polls on here yesterday, just kept getting error message. [ more ]
El Loro I don't think it is advisable to show who has voted for who. Firstly, if more than a few peopel voted, the resulting list could problems for viewing. As far as I know on these forum pages, the number of lines per page is restricted, so how do do you overcome this when the page with the votes cast are shown will be longer than the page before? Secondly, many people would not want their forum names being shown on some polls. For instance with election polls, some want to remain anonymous but... [ more ]

I finally found a mate I was looking for but...
El Loro I think that someone's sexual preferences are only a fairly small part of someone's personality unless they make a big issue of it. So for me, whether someone is straight, gay, bi-sexual, or non-sexual doesn't matter. As far as not picking up on someone being gay whilst at school, you don't say how old you were. I doubt if you had been at primary school rather than secondary, that you could have seen any signs. Even at secondary school, a gay person might not have matured enough to be able... [ more ]
Karma_ I'm not really understanding what your issue is here? And when you were kids he might not have had gay 'tendencies' (for want of a better phrase). You say you have no problem with him being gay, but ask yourself this, if he had mailed back saying he was married to the woman of his dreams and had 3 kids and a white picket fence would you be thinking differently or would you still have concerns that you wouldn't get along? A girl I went to school with is getting married to her girlfriend. I... [ more ]

It's official - Women are to blame for recent earthquakes

Sarum Reference: the evolved man would have the babies by vsection and would get themselves pregnant by taking a new pill, a pill invented by a man, and it wouldn't be one of those you shoved up your bum either. A parthenogenesis pill...interesting idea. Of course, your pill-and c-section reproduction would only be available to those with access to high-tech medicine...which would mean that around 75% of the population of the planet would die out. Less of a strain on Mother Earth, I suppose (oops,... [ more ]

Yellow Rose I remember that scene, without the added extras to sound and replay lol. There was a really silly scene tonight in EE. Strictly Come Dancing rumour...
brisket Oh dear, of dear. I hope they are not going to have a complete clear out and replace everyone with the young brigade. (Nothing personal darlo ) The BBC are doing too much of this appealing to the youth market. We have seen that in many instances it fails. I think Strictly only needs a little tweaking - nothing drastic. When they change too much it often loses fans. [ more ]

brisket John Crace (the tv critic in today's Guardian) says: "I'd rather stay in a freezing cold shed in the Hebrides with no food, no running water and no chance of rescue than spend one night in any of the B&Bs featured in Three in a Bed . Its all Gordon Browns fault...
Garage Joe Like many people I was disappointed that Gordon Brown turned out to be another right wing PM. However in terms of facing off national crisis you can't fault him. He faced the domestic terrorist threat, he sorted out the global economic crisis even if it meant bailing out the one track minded, greed ridden, fat cat, capitalist hooerbags, and he has dealt with this one. Politics.......
Dame_Ann_Average Reference: Margaret Thatcher was a self-serving, nasty, greedy, arrogant and inverted snob of a politician. She paved the way for the likes of Tony Blair (loved internationally but sending the nation to hell in a hand cart).
