This country stinks.
Former Member Reference: Beamers Hold on a min VD had it been someone else less favorable to yourself you would have been up in arms about what was said. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, no? You'd be very surprised at who I've supported in the past in the face of adversity. Mention names and I'm banned. [ more ]

Former Member Reference: Of course we're quite hord in the top-right as soops well knows. We don't have it with salt and we eat it while wearing our vests. Actually on the occasions I have hot porridge, I have it with milk, cream and sugar or maybe syrup and usually whilst wearing a fluffy fleece dressing gown! Worra wuss eh?..... I love porridge oats soaked in fruit juice for ten mins or so, then topped with a selection of chopped nuts and dried fruit, some toasted coconut, a big dollop of greek yoghurt,... [ more ]

Former Member I agree that breast surgery is still 'surgery,' and people don't seem to realise the risks. To be honest, I wouldnt have plastic surgery if you paid me. I would never ever put myself through surgery that was not necessary. [ more ]
stonks Thats so sad.... [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Bottom line: breast enhancement is major surgery. Like any major surgery, there are inherent risks. However, that's not the general public perception of cosmetic surgery, and I find that rather worrying. Perhaps that term "cosmetic" is seen to imply a lower risk. I found the last line in the article very revealing: "Her previous five operations were reportedly done at a private clinic in Poland which refused to admit her for a sixth time." Now, leaving aside whether any responsible surgeon... [ more ]

Former Member Have to admit that I am not massively fond of insurance companies, and in my personal experience and that of many people I know, they will pull ANYthing that they can out of their backside to avoid paying. I have got many a tale (of my own and of colleagues/neighbours/extended family/neighbours and so on,) about problems with insurance companies, but it would take all day to put all the stories. Suffice to say I (and many folk I know,) have been stung VERY badly by many types of insurance;... [ more ]

Former Member A lot of insurance is a con. The ones that make me blow my top are the ones where you get cold called and they are offering you insurance that only pays out if you die from female cancer. They are the biggest con ever and I tend to go into rant mode with the hapless soul who phoned. For a start it only pays out if you die from a female specific cancer ie uterine or ovarian cancer. I'm not even sure that breast cancer is covered now as I have read reports that increasing numbers of men are... [ more ]

Larkrise is back
Former Member Lark Rise To Candleford will not be returning for a fifth series, the BBC have confirmed. The "memorable and much loved" period drama - which stars Julia Sawalha, Olivia Hallinan and Linda Bassett - will leave TV screens for good when the current run reaches its conclusion on February 13. In a statement to the press, BBC One controller Danny Cohen explained: " Lark Rise To Candleford has been a truly wonderful part of the BBC One schedule over the last few years, but after four series we... Former Member Reference: However, I have just watched this week the second series of "Land Girls" on daytime television, the only real drama on any of the terrestial channels during the day. "The Indian Doctor" a few months ago was also excellent and sure beats the endless repeats of "Midsomer Murders", and don't even get me started on "Deal or No Deal"! I totally agree with you about Land girls (why did we only get a week of it this time - wasn't the first series longer?) and the Indian doctor - they... [ more ]

You can't take it with you
Former Member Aww that's sad Cologne. I am sorry. And proof that you (like many on this forum) have little interest in possessions (unless they are severely sentimental) and more interest in human life. Sounds like you're better off without people like that in your life (the ones you mentioned in your post...) [ more ]
cologne 1 when my mother had to go for an operation and then go into an old folks home, her family invaded the house. Several pictures they wanted; Dalton ware, old radios, Madonnas and child, which cost my mother £600. I was supposed to be the receiver of the will, but I decided to get rid of these people and let them have what they want. [ more ]
Former Member What shocks and amazes me is how some people (on that show and in real life,) seem to be merely concerned about what kind of payout they're going to get, and how gutted they will be if it's not as much as they expect/want, and they don't seem to seem as bothered about their parents eventually dying! The money is clearly more important to them! And God help them if their parents (or the person leaving them the dosh) manage to lose everything and have to go bankrupt, because of bad luck in... Croctacus I don't care what happens once I'm dead...I may leave my body to medical science for med students to cut up. [ more ]
cologne 1 I was listening to Jeremy Vine last week and one of the items discussed was a new way of dispensing of bodies. I can't remember what it's called, but we would end up as a bit of amber liquid which is thrown down the drain and some ashes which are purer than cremation and can be given to relatives. It was received with mixed reactions, but I think it's a good idea, we will run out of space eventually and, as I will be dead, I don't really care. [ more ]

Are you a digital hoarder?
Carnelian Oh yes, and a bit cautious over back ups. Four external hard drives mostly with recorded TV and a PVR filled to the brim and all music on external hard drives backed up on another hard drive. I do keep things with the ambition of watching them again but often have things stored for many months before I watch them. I don't like cluttering up the PC internal drive with music and video either. Mostly given up on recordable DVD +/- RW as I've had little luck with DVD recorders. [ more ]
Jen-Star Reference: Yeah but how do you remember what it was to download if ever needed again? See? It's not that simple is it? If i ever think "Oh that programme would be good for this task" etc then i go search for it and d/l As for movies, tv shows and music i tend to stream it all from youtube and other such sites as and when i need it [ more ]

brisket Reference: Flossie The coalition never had a manifesto. Both parties had to abandon various pre-election commitments as part of forming a coalition, that is how coalitions work This is true. It amazes me that so many in the labour party are still doing their best to refer to "the coalition" as one party. They either do it to tease and try to score points, or they really still do not understand, (in which case, it's time they learnt.) Politicians should know how a coalition works. I suspect... Are you a positive or negative person?
Croctacus I always thiik whats the worst that could happen....if it doesn't involve being put up against a wall and shot then why worry. [ more ]
Cagney I'd say 99% positive. I'm always telling myself that theirs always someone worse off, it's not the end of the world, if it's something I can't fix then I shouldn't worry etc. I don't involve myself in other peoples problems either which helps. One thing that always gives me a good kick up the ass when I'm being negative is seeing those ads for animal charities, 3rd world country chariites and anything to do with kids being abused. Compared to all that I have nothing to moan about [ more ]
