Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Don't worry about it lillymay, you're not the first person to resurrect an old thread and you probably won't be the last! Sometimes it's an accident and sometimes it's intentional as there is something relevant to add! All is perfectly OK. Welcome to our little family! [ more ]

Robert Guillaume: 'Benson' actor dies aged 89
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities @Eugenes Lair I too remember the TV series Soap and used to love the end of each show for the life or death narrator lines like: At the end of each episode, he asks a series of life-or-death questions in a deliberately deadpan style—"Will Jessica discover Chester's affair? Will Benson discover Chester's affair? Will Benson care?" and concludes each episode with the trademark line, "These questions—and many others—will be answered in the next episode of... Soap ." [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Never watched "Benson", but was a big fan of "Soap". It says a lot of Guillaume that he was the one who got the spin-off show out of what was after all a very strong ensemble cast (which included the likes of Billy Crystal). RIP [ more ]
Yogi19 I liked him in Benson. RIP Robert. [ more ]

For anyone who has to pay tax to the HMRC
Saint As bad as me [ more ]
El Loro At least for the time being people can send a cheque through the post to HMRC (for personal tax) or at their bank (provided they've got an official payslip from HMRC) but for how long will they be able to. The hardest hit will be those members clubs, some of which have to pay corporation tax. That won't be many but they aren't allowed to pay through the post. HMRC have stopped sending them payslips so they can't pay at the bank. They won't be able to use a credit card as they can at present. [ more ]

The Film Thread
Eugene's Lair I read somewhere that Villeneuve made a (perhaps jokey) comment that this is one film where you won't get a Director's Cut, because it's long enough already! Having said that: 1) The "Blade Runner" Director's Cut remains one of the few examples of the format where most of the changes were to remove things! 2) Jared Leto has made references in interviews to at least one scene he filmed which - although he didn't know for certain if it was in the movie when he made the comments - sounds as if... Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I made the assumption during the film that the blackout had destroyed almost all the data from dialogue, but I do tend to agree now that it might have been the short of benefit most. Could you imagine how long the film would be if they had added more information in !!!! I have since seen Mark Kermodes sort of review. I agree with him now thinking back how this is like a piece of art. I have also listened to the soundtrack which I think is awesome. [ more ]

Sean Hughes: Comedian, actor and writer dies aged 51
Eugene's Lair Heard about this at lunchtime, and have taken a while to get my head around it. As everyone's said, it's desperately sad - especially given his age. A genuinely funny bloke who'll be missed. [ more ]
Carnelian Very sad to hear. I liked him in everything he did. He struck me as one of those 'stars' who wasn't up himself. 51 is so young to go and I didn't know he had an alcohol problem. RIP Sean. [ more ]

Saint I worked for a Russian Jew who settled in the UK He founded the first Jewish synagogue in Newcastle and was invited to travel to Warsaw to witness the ghettos.
