Those "telling" moments
jacksonb i find this image truly disturbing,it makes me feel angry, upset, useless and just so sad. no wonder the guy who took it and walked away because the job of a journalist is never to interfere with events, but merely report them, committed suicide a few months later, i would have had night mares too, but i honestly don't think i would have ever walked away. Is there a not-so-well-known film you would recommend to others?
jonono THE CASTLE is a totally excellent film I would recommend. It's a bit old now but a classic. Loosely based on the true story of a family who fought a compulsory purchase order on their land when the airport wanted to extend the runway, I can appreciate that sounds boring as hell but it's told with great humour and is just a totally feel good film. Big thumbs up from me. [ more ]

Red Nose Day
Former Member I remember the very first Red Nose day back in 1988 - I was in my sixth year at school and we all wore red noses for the whole day. Back then they were just plain noses - now they come in all different styles I actually cant be bothered watching the telly programmes - they bore me - I agree with PeterCat that charity donations should be made regularly - if you choose to. There are some great threads
Former Member I know it made me titter when she told me. I did actually have a workman in when our loo broke once, and didn't realise that I had left a paid of knickers with a 'used' sanitary towel stuck to it at the side of the shower. (Although it was only slightly soiled as my period was on its fifth day...) (I know it doesn't make it any better does it?????!!!!!!! ) I had kicked my clothes off half asleep half hour before when getting in the shower, and he came earlier than scheduled. I noticed it... Ells OMG you are dead right it would have been round the office! I would have died! I hate having anyone strange in the house like a workman coz I always think they're gonna move something and a pair of knickers or something are gonna be sat staring at them. Like when they removed all my old radiators to replace them and there was a pair of old nags, probably older than me behind one of them.....they weren't mine of course but the workman didn't know where to look. Carnelian Avalon Moonlight Thank God for the BBC. Long may it reign (but I fear for it) Quite, so do I. I expect The Sun, Times, News of the World will put out all the stops now to undermine the licence fee. The licence fee is the only thing stopping Murdoch from having all British media and culture in his pocket. The sell out of media by complict governments over the last forty five years has led to this. Labour really should have taken a punt on rolling back the Murdoch empire when it had the chance... Bad and good news for everyone for car insurance and pensions
Carnelian I tend to dissagree with this decision, it's all about assessing risk rather than making sexist assumptions. If female drivers are of less risk they should pay smaller premiums, if men die earlier they should pay less for their annuities. A general insurance fact is that men have higher rates of mortality and women, higher rates of morbidity. That means women live longer but tend to be ill for longer periods before they die. This will also impact on life insurance. On balance, I'd expect... [ more ]
