TOP FIVE - part three
El Loro which reminds me of that Gerry Anderson series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. The last but one episode was called Attack on Cloudbase. I missed quite a lot of the start of that episode. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5uz2o2 25 minutes long, I would have missed the first 10 minutes. Other than the ending of that, you can see why I was reminded. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities ...OH I forgot Blakes 7. As a kid I loved it. [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities Miami Vice The Young Ones Buffy The Vampire Slayer The Persuaders The Big Bang Theory (although that list will be different next week as I have missed off Fawlty Towers, Open All Hours, The Man From Uncle, The Six Million Dollar Man to name a few). [ more ]

Breaking News
Dame_Ann_Average So we know Yellowhammer is not the worst case scenario, it's the base case, They changed the title to worst case. We now now Black Swan is the worst case and they will not release it...the fallout from Benny Hill's idea of a no deal Brexit is absolutely terrifying. [ more ]
Yogi19 Me too, Velvet. Married an Englishman and my boys are proud of the Anglo-Scottish heritage. [ more ]

Caroline Lucas is quite rational.
Carnelian Jezza all the way! [ more ]
velvet donkey I'd still vote for her. [ more ]
Carnelian She got a bit of stick for her "women's cabinet" that ignored non white women in Labour who are currently senior to the white women she suggested from Labour. It didn't look very good (especially in the political circles she operates within) to appear as a passive racist. She apologised afterwards. [ more ]

*What is it* Quiz
Eugene's Lair Saint and I both saw "wheel hub", but I think that was asking too much. Some of the answers seem ridiculously specific; I mean, "Ottoman basket"? Looking back, I can see "door knob" now, but I'm staring and staring at #13 and I'm really not seeing a 20p piece - and isn't the cloth more prominent in that picture anyway? [ more ]
Eugene's Lair You definitely deserve brownie points for that one! [ more ]

Another nutter with a gun...............
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I noticed it on the news and to be honest, it does not have the impact that type of news used to have. I almost expect a mass shooting in the US every month or so. The statistics are appalling. The least the Americans can do is to ban automatic and semiautomatic weapons from public ownership. [ more ]
velvet donkey Happy retirement Fluffs! Second amendment. If Obama was serious... We know Trump relies on the NRA. [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing True Baz, but is it really necessary to let people have assault/automatic weapons? They could still let people have a gun (if they really really felt the need), without all the multiple mass murder weapons. [ more ]

HOW STUPID IS THIS?
Carnelian He looks well inebriated. [ more ]
Carnelian As someone who drinks far too much, (my ranty posts are proof of that) but never drives drunk it is an irritation that people who could easily afford cabs or even chauffeurs drink and drive. [ more ]
El Loro A new BBC news article about this. It includes a clip from an officer's body camera as to what happened: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-...-merseyside-49522290 [ more ]

Baz Thanks EFFT [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Depending on how far from the centre you would still consider the station as an 'Edinburgh station' you could have more than 10! [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Not sure if anyone has answered this, But Edinburgh Waverly is the big station in the centre of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Haymarket is a smaller station on the western outskirts of the city. These are the main Intercity stations. [ more ]

Hi folks. Unable to log off now.
Lori You're welcome! [ more ]
velvet donkey Lori, I can't thank you enough for doing that. But thanks [ more ]
Lori Hi, @velvet donkey Well, that menu is kind of long, and it sounds like your browser window is not long enough to get you to the end of it, for some reason. No worries, though: I've just added a "Sign Out" menu item under the Privacy - Cookie Policy menu item. If you mouse over that, now, you'll see an option to Sign Out. Hope that works for you! Emma Willis new host of Big Brother inspired programme The Circle.
Yogi19 Don’t mind Emma but the programme doesn’t appeal. [ more ]
Saint To me Emma is dead behind the eyes Her hearts not in it She always seems aloof and disinterested - it's a 'job' - nothing more and she'd really rather be at home. Goodness knows if that's true [ more ]
Carnelian Emma Willis is so sexy, and witty. Emma Willis is my fantasy girlfriend/wife. Still, if the show's shit, I won't be watching. [ more ]

Labour care feck all about The Union.
Carnelian yep, of course I accept people have different opinions. Equally valid? Well, sort of, in their own minds - equal or superior to my views. Even so, my opinions won't mean vulnerable people don't get their vital medicines nor will they facilitate disaster capitalism which is what Brexit is all about, a Trojan Horse for disaster capitalist hedge fund managers to **** over this country! [ more ]
Baz I don’t think anyone expects you to compromise or sell out your principles Carnelian ...I certainly don’t ....but then it’s only fair that you accept that others have different opinions , which are equally valid ...or at least as strongly held [ more ]

"Jade" on Channel 4
Eugene's Lair Jade Goody: Cancer charity hopes documentary serves as 'a reminder' 'The UK's largest cervical cancer charity has said it hopes a documentary about Jade Goody will serve as "a reminder" of the impact of the disease. The finale of Channel 4's three-part Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain aired on Wednesday. Goody's illness and death in 2009, aged 27, led to a 12% spike in women getting NHS smear tests at the time. But Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust said screening rates are now lower than... [ more ]
Baz Thanks Eugene ....interesting summary ...as always [ more ]
Eugene's Lair Sure enough: they had the guy from OK proudly holding up a copy of their "Jade tribute Issue". Even tried to regain some of the moral high ground with a story about a Sun photographer breaking into Jade's wedding. It was perhaps inevitable, but there was way too much coverage of Max Clifford for my (and probably everyone-else's) liking. Again, Dan Evans from NotW gains some credit for his brutal honesty, with a story about how he was told “We need to get the first picture of her with no... [ more ]

Big Brother 2019
Baz I was too busy studying in the evenings ....but once I watched it I was hooked....even when it became rubbish [ more ]
Enthusiastic Contrafibularities I agree with Carnelian (saved me doing lots of writing). With all the issues surrounding care of contestants for various programmes, I don't feel BB would be suitable now. As a show it had it's moments, which could have gone (or did go) totally out of hand. The best thing is that there is still a good number of us returning to the forum despite no BB, just as I predicted. [ more ]
Saint Why? BB6 was the best (2005) I would watch from the beginning to fill the gap Would be interesting to see it from a new perspective [ more ]

Widespread power failures
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing Mind you. there was a brief loss of power just before 5pm at the hospital. [ more ]
El Loro Cause not yet known but Industry experts said that a gas-fired power station at Little Barford, Bedfordshire, failed at 16.58, followed two minutes later by the Hornsea offshore wind farm disconnecting from the grid. So why these two failures happenng within 2 minutes ??? [ more ]
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing From what I've read, the mass failures don't seem to be affecting Scotland, but as we are expecting thunderstorms for the next 24+ hours, I wouldn't be surprised if some areas experience something similar! [ more ]
