Detoxing – the idea that you can flush your system of impurities and leave your organs squeaky clean and raring to go – is a scam. It’s a pseudo-medical concept designed to sell you things.

It's something I hear a lot at work, especially after Xmas, alongside the other crazy concept of "I've had a mad weekend, only had about 5 hours sleep over the weekend, so I will have a good nights sleep tonight to make up for it", which as we now know you can't 'bank' or 'catch-up' on lost sleep or pending sleep deprived periods.

So the questions I pose are:

  • How many people do you know believe in detoxing?
  • How many people have started a healthier lifestyle?
  • How many of you actually get enough sleep?
  • Any of you started getting more natural sleep and how do you feel?
  • Have any of you cut out certain types of food?
  • if so what have you cut out and how have you been affected?
  • Anyone stopped drinking alcohol all together?
  • Has quitting alcohol changed you?
  • Caffeine, anyone quit or cut down?
  • Anyone not give a stuff and lives life at 100mph regardless?

My mother would de-tox one weekend a month. She'd only eat very black bread (Pumpernickel) with 0% fat cheese and camomile tea without sugar. It worked for her.

Once the endorphins start kicking in it is one of the best feelings out there but it's the motivation to kick start. Green tea, plenty water, exercise - believe me the weight flies off and you really do feel good

Couldn't agree more Velvet ... I'm going to start up on my exercise bike again [ I also combine it with tv, a movie or a box set  ] You get a definite endorphin rush/high from exercise... its quite surprising! And also its just a nice feeling being physically fit, as opposed to huffing and puffing my way up the stairs.

Detox foods etc are a bit of a con though I reckon.

I think sticking with a healthy eating and exercise regime is very hard, but you have the right idea IMO. Eat healthy, plenty of water and move the body around a few times a week. That seems to be the best advice.
