I used the word 'Nesh' when I was down south the other week. I got blank stares

I'm guessing that the word 'Mardy' will be more familiar now thanks to the Arctic Monkeys song.

My mother used to tell me to stop being a 'Mardy Bum'.

Love, love, love that song.

I will probably get run out of Sheffield for saying this, but I'm not a fan of them, not really my type of music I'm afraid.

But seeing as you like it Soozy I've dug up the tune for you to listen to whilst reading the thread

Hi Suzybean, it really has nothing to do with how modern the group or their music is, I am not a fan of their songwriting, it just does not do anything for me.

I would be quite confident in sticking my neck out and saying that I think I am probably one of the most open minded people on GGJJ when it comes to music. I have a wide range of tastes and will give most music a go.

In fact I am currently exploring Stockhausen, Reich and Glass. I a also on the cusp of purchasing some Ludovico Einaudi albums.

Yesterday I purchased the new Goldfrapp album along with a new album by Four Tet and one by Moby. I have purchased M83's album and Ulrich Schnauss' latest LP.

Some on here will know that I have been buying a lot of old jazz classics in particular Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy and Art Blakey to name a few.

I have a big interest in electronic music and picked up recent releases by Boards of Canada and Autechre. I love Susumu Yokota who straddles ambient electronica and House music. I like glitch and grime and was into it long before it became commercial-ish.

So hopefully I've given you a snapshot of my tastes and I will leave you with one of my favourite tunes.

Ha Ha....Gorgeous day here I agree, and a few tears were shed watching the old veterans marching around the village green to 'It's a Long Way to Tipperary'

I'm so happy for the people of Hull. It will give a much needed boost to the area and maybe change the sterotypical image.

It is a lovely place .........obviously it has it's rough spots like anywhere else but unemployment is high. I find it a quite charming city - unique in character and the people are lovely. Some good museums and theatres etc.

I was there on Monday evening seeing Will Young in Cabaret ............we were able to park virtually outside and eat out at a local cafe with the pre theatre menu. No hassle, no stress and a really great evening. I'm looking forward to a year of 'eventfulness' close by.

This be the verse.

Oh  I had a misapprehension and promoted Hull to the champions of Europe. Still it's quite an achievement

Hull is a funny one when it comes to its county. The people of Hull who over recent years we (and I) have worked with much more closely refer to themselves as being from Humberside. It's much clearer when you look it up.

"Hull, is a city and unitary authority area in the ceremonial county of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England".
