Jeepers Tina! I didn't realise she was that young!

I remember George and Mildred with that little sidecar motorbike. I asked my dad to get one and my mum gave me one of those 'looks'. (I didn't mention it again).

I loved Man About the House and George and Mildred. 
Out of respect, though, I shall call her Yootha.  

Loved George and Mildred... probably my favourite sitcom as a child
So sad that poor Yootha Joyce died so young. I remember my shock when her death was announced. Wasn't it something like an infection or something she picked up from water?

She was fab in MATH and G & M. 


Apparently she was an alcoholic which is what contributed to her death

[[George and Mildred (film)|feature film was made of George and Mildred in 1980, but this was to be Joyce's last work. Amidst growing concern over her health she was admitted to hospital in the summer of 1980. Yootha Joyce died, in hospital, of liver failure four days after her 53rd birthday on 24 August 1980. Her good friend, the actor Brian Murphy, who played her screen husband, George Roper, was at her bedside. She was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium.

I really liked her a lot too.    I remember her dying and thought she was pretty old at the time, (but then I was only about 6...)  but she was actually only 53!

I'm really sad to hear of her alcoholism  . I remember that at the time of her death, that wasn't the story that was put out, but something about her picking something up from water, or something along those lines.
Poor lady.

Oh b.t.w. I meant to say to the o.p. we must be telepathic, because I was thinking about Yootha Joyce only recently. There have been a lot of tv tribute programmes on past comedians, maybe thats why she was in my mind. She was a much better comic actress/actor than most of the ones around today. Great double act with Brian Murphy
