The X Factor 2014 judges’ have been given their categories, but who’s got what?.

This year the judges – Cheryl Cole, Mel B, Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh – have again been given their categories before bootcamp starts this weekend.

Cheryl’s got the GIRLS for the THIRD time in her four series while Mel B has been given the BOYS for her first run.

Simon Cowell has been given the OVERS while Louis Walsh has the GROUPS.

Despite being given the traditionally tough category (even if they did win last year with Sam Bailey), Simon’s happy.

A source said this morning: “He’s really chuffed with the overs. There’s a lot of talent in his group and he reckons he’s got a good chance of winning.”

Another insider added: “Cheryl was thrilled. She’s been teasing Simon non-stop since saying he may as well quit now because there’s no way he will win.”

Bootcamp will take place this weekend in London at Wembley Arena, before the final few acts in each category fly out for judges’ houses.

Each judge will choose six acts to take through to judges’ houses in the return of the ‘Six Chair Challenge’.

One by one, the remaining acts in each category will perform for all four judges who will comment and critique the act.

Then, the mentor for that category will decide whether or not to give the contestant a ‘seat’ in the next round.

Once all six seats are full, the mentors must then decide who to swap and replace in the seats if they want to take further any further acts through.

The X Factor 2014 is set to launch later this month on ITV.

The X Factor 2014 final 24 acts have been chosen after bootcamp concluded at the weekend.

Over the past two days, the judges have whittled down the acts in their categories to just six apiece.

It was revealed yesterday that this year Cheryl Cole has the Girls, Mel B the Boys, Simon Cowell the Overs and Louis Walsh the groups.

An audience of some 3,000 fans watched the final six acts decided in a tense filming session at Wembley arena last night.

And not all the decisions went down well with the audience.

“A lot of Cheryl’s choices had the audience booing,” a source told us, “the crowd hated her.”

At one point, Simon Cowell stepped in and told the audience: “Let’s calm down…

“Sitting here is tough and stressful. Bear with her and give her a couple of minutes to make her mind up.”

Some of the acts who auditioned for this year’s competition include last year’s hopeful Paul Akister and Amy Connelly, who returned to sing for Cheryl after six years following her tearful 2008 audition.

Also singing for the judges was Steph Nala of Britain’s Got Talent’s Luminites fame.

But our lips are sealed when it comes to whether or not any of them have made it through to the final six in their respective categories.

You don’t have to wait too long now to find out…

Meanwhile – as has become somewhat of a yearly X Factor tradition – bootcamp has also seen some new manufactured groups put together.

We can reveal that judges formed both a boy and girl gang, as usual put together from rejected solo performers.

Whether or not they’ll be the next One Direction or Little Mix, or alternatively go the same way as Miss Frank, remains to be seen.

The X Factor 2014 judges have come under attack after a series of shocking decisions at bootcamp.

We told yesterday how Cheryl’s choices in particular had riled the crowd at London’s Wembley Arena during the weekend’s filming.

Louis Walsh also came under attack from the 3,000 strong live audience after ‘changing his mind’.

Both Cheryl and Louis stand accused of ditching talented acts in favour of novelty performers, although they’ve also been accused of being ‘puppets’.

Audience members watched as producers hurriedly ran back an forth to the judges’ desk between the decisions.

Twitter user @DazGale said: “The X Factor is a total fix. Both Cheryl and Louis have now ‘changed their minds’ (been told) and let a novelty act replace a genuine act.”

However X Factor insiders and a spokesperson for the show played down the claims, which followed the ‘Six Seat Challenge’ part of the format.

It sees the judges able to switch acts in and out of their line up for judges’ houses.

An X Factor insider told The Sun newspaper: “The judges can change their minds as much as they want.

“Producers talk to the judges all the time but it doesn’t mean they are telling them what to do. They are simply there to advise them. The judges don’t wear earpieces so producers talk to them at the desk throughout filming.

“In this instance the judges spoke to the production team about the fact that they wanted to change their minds.”

An X Factor spokesman added: “As part of the Six-Chair Challenge judges have to decide who goes through to the judges’ houses.

“Until all the acts in their category have sung and the judge has declared that they have chosen their final six, each judge is able to change their minds and bring back anyone they have removed from a seat at any stage.”
