The UK's biggest singing competition is back, presented by Dermot O'Leary. Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger welcome a familiar face back to the judging panel for the show's tenth series - the feisty Sharon Osbourne - as they scour the nation once again in search of a world-class artist.

The X Factor returns for a tenth series on Saturday evening, and as we’ve come to expect from previous shows the opening episode will be filled with the usual assortment of talented, talentless and frankly comical.

With the audition process reverting to its original accapella format, hopefuls will be performing in a more intimate, but no less intimidating environment for judges Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and the returning Sharon Osbourne.

This time round it’s the prerequisite three yes’s that see them through to a further audition in front of a live and often merciless audience.

Simon Cowell makes surprise appearance at The X Factor launch

If there’s anyone who can kick The X Factor 2013 off in style - it’s big boss and original Judge, Simon Cowell. And what a start he gave it – by jumping on stage and telling the excited media present, “I’m very proud to be a part of the show. I feel like a very proud daddy.”

Judges Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne all joined Simon for the afternoon at secret London location. And seeing as we were there too, we thought it was time to hang out with the judges – and find out what’s in store for us this weekend.

Discussing the new room auditions, Nicole told us:

“I love being in the smaller rooms because you don’t have to be judged by the audience. You can really hone in on a contestant and give them an honest critique.”

While returning Judge Sharon Osbourne, who looked thrilled to be back on her favourite show, said:

“I couldn’t be happier. It’s better than I expected - the judging panel is really, really good. We have two artists and two managers – it’s the perfect balance.

“And I love the drama. I love having the audition rooms. It’s intimate. And I adore Nicole. Look at her – she’s such a vision!”

So, how will Mr Barlow be celebrating a decade of The X Factor?

“There are fireworks,” he said. “There are smoked salmon sandwiches backstage.

“We are all aware it’s a big anniversary for the show - and we have really found the talent this year. I think people will watch because they have a favourite.”

Now, all you have to do is tune in to The X Factor this Saturday and Sunday at 8pm on ITV to find out more…

I'm glad it's going back to the oldstyle closed auditions - much better.      I wish I was strong enough not to get sucked in again, but I know I will.   Not tonight though - I've got a visitor.

Does anyone know when it starts proper? We don't like the audition stage. It's also a mystery why Tulissa has gone, Was it her decision? It's an interesting idea to bring that boring old fart back with her faux arguments with Louis mind. Don't like her one bit!

I'd forgotten about that... hmm.... maybe I might manage to break away!    Joe - My TV planner says tonight is 'audition 1 of 8' so I guess there's 4 weeks of auditions before we get to the lives (if 'auditions' include judges houses)

Yes he is ok. The hair thing could just be a gimmick everybody needs their gimmick to stand out in this show.

Mr Yogi is going to give me such a ribbing, as I've been saying for months that I'm not going to watch it.

It's worth a look. Let's face it, there isn't much else on.
