I'm around, but posting elsewhere on LC mostly ... let's hope there isn't a Krap Kris in the house this time round
I hope there is Shar - I enjoy venting my rage about someone

Aimee - that is such a tragic story - how awful for your Grandad

I'm sure I've heard this story before... did you mention it on C4 forums at any time?

Yellow Rose, you sound like my mum, she does everything you just said  i used to hate it when i was kid and there was a storm, we never got any tea, couldn't watch TV and if you dared to go near the door to go outside she would jump on you, how she knew when she had her eyes and ears covered i will never know  now my dad has to suffer on his own with her, she want touch water or answer the phone either

I'm terrified of thunder and lightening, hate it. I turn off tv, pc, close curtains and sit with hands over my ears. When it's right overhead I'm almost hysterical with fear
I used to be like that years ago. My mum put the fear of God into me with regard to storms ...................I'm so glad I'm over it - you just have to ask yourself - how many people do you know who's been hurt by lightening? Apart from Aimees great grandmother. It's rare ..........a storm is a really spectacular display from mother nature IMO ................get out there and enjoy it

Awwwwww, YR the thunder's ok...it's just the lightning you have to be wary of
Thanks Onetoo, Soozy and Aimee.  Hubby says the thunder can't do any damage but I really hate the noise, it sounds soooo threatening. I'm sure I got this fear from my Mum when I was a kid. Whenever there was a storm she'd panic, close curtains, put cutlery away in the drawer if it was out in case lightening struck it.she'd take off any jewellery as well, just in case that got struck, lol. I do the same  I've never personally known anyone who's been struck by lightening but have read many stories of those who have or their houses have, lightening isn't good

It's just started again here  daughter has come down stairs saying she's not tired anymore  she doesn't like it, but won't admit it, my mum made my older brother scared of it through her antics, so when i was little the old man next door used to make me stand outside with him through a storm  i loved it and love it now, my mum must have been having a heart attack at the time

My mum was the same ............it kind of makes me laugh now - although some months ago I was sat at the PC and everything blew ...............it freaked me out a bit but - I'm still here to tell the tale.
Thank goodness it was the pc and not you that blew some bodily fuses  I know there's something that can be bought for pc's to prevent that happening in a strike, just can't remember what it's called, I've thought in the past of buying it but decided it's cheaper just to switch it off lol.

Over the years I've learnt the safest place to be is in a car. I've learnt not to be on the phone through a biography of a man who was on the phone when lightening struck it and he was so severely burned the medics thought he was dead, took him a couple of years to regain his health. Also not to be in the bath or shower but can't remember why  I obviously have survival issues with this lol

I remember some years ago at work the whole place went kaput in a storm .....telephones - computers - lights - the whole lot. No one was harmed - we just had a great few hours with nothing to do but play games and sing songs. Places of work can't possibly close down just because it's thunder and lightening outside - it is - as I say - very rare to be seriously hurt or killed ........................I just try and enjoy it.
