If you want supreme executive power, so to speak, you have to pay for a domain. Next you have to pay for hosting (on a yearly basis)

If you just want a forum you can obtain them free on various hosting sites, but you have no control over advertising. They have to get their money somehow.

Yes.  I pay £10 per year to be a member of another forum I frequent.  It's pretty specialist though and I am happy to support the host so that it stays -

I used to pay for SG, is was worth it...the fora there were surprisingly (4 realz!!!) good.  But then it all went rubbishhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (yes, yes you did SG!)

But I mean, you were getting boobies and stuff with that.  And a really bloody good forum experience and interviews with proper cool people (and the fora were really good...did I say that?)  it was 99% lefty liberaly type Americans (I know! but they do exist) and about 0.5% British/Australian the same and 0.5% mightyrighty/scary Americans...armed wi' guns and that I mean guns and boobs...there is just no need

But then it all went the way of the pear.  Worra shame.  In the words of the Right Rev Jon McLure it coulda been a contender.  Of course it's raking in the cash now...but it's all a bit shite.  Sold out (yes I just used that cliché...I did!)

Agree forums should be free. The VIP thing here allows for more if folk want it and it may help in a small way. The late night lap dances, free drinks, male/ female strippers, waited on hand and foot, Right-- truth is to get to chat to Nikki ( BB7). Need i say more?

Real, the VIP route here does offer advantages if you wish, it gives the purchaser the option of starting their own group, as James did with the 'Sinking Ship' also instant upload of photo's from your computer, saves all that photobucketing malarky.

If I use a forum enough, regularly, for at least 3 months, and i like it, I wouldn't mind paying an optional amount to support it. But I wouldn't pay if it was obligatory.

It depends what you do, I suppose. Users can be banned at the channel level (e.g., just GaGaJoyJoy) or globally (across LiveCloud).

On the subject of paying for forums, I have paid to run forums in the past, so yes, I would definitely do that.

As for paying to use a forum, probably not for just the forum, but I do and would pay for a premium membership to a site that incorporates forums as one aspect.

Yes because it costs to run a good forum and it's only fair to spread the cost and make sure that the work people put in is compensated.
