digging at the Porn Baron that took over the Express, chipped away for months, then suddenly
the Express remind the mail of their postion
regarding Hitler, No more was heard from the Mail on that subject.

out of interest, what part of the Country do their local Papers circulate? I would be very intersted to know as I am doing a little survey in my head at the momemt Big Grin

Trinity Mirror own papers all over the country, including nearly all the papers in Wales, plus Newcastle, Liverpool and Birmingham.

I thought so, I dont read newspapers to be honest, what they write is what they sell and I just got sick of reading constant trash, I have never really read the Mirror so cant really comment on that one, though I did used to read Andy Capp years ago Big Grin he was more true to life! Is he still in there with his wife? Laugh

i read the daily mail and ive been laughed at because of it-however, i read it because littlejohns rants make me laugh, they do really good features about figures in history etc..they do excerpts from new books which i read and decide if the book is worth buying, they do excellent film reviews which i can understand! the weekend tv mag is great and i like doing the cryptic crossword-in a nutshell, the paper doesnt represent my views, i just like it for the features

so if someone could explain what the other papers 'stand for' i would be grateful :thumb

please bear in mind-im not thick-just not very well educated, never went to school etc..
but i can read and write, im good at quizzes, got a good business head on me-i just dont 'get' certain things
so laymans terms would be great Big Grin

I agree china, I read the daily mail and I find it on the whole a well balanced newspaper. It certainly doesn't give a biaised view. I like the political commentator - is it Quentin Lettes? - he makes me laugh, such tongue in cheek remarks. I used to read the daily mirror years ago but I had to stop buying it as they were always ranting on.

i dont like that quentin bloke-i saw him on 'have i got news for you' and i thought he was annoying before he opened his cakehole and said anything Big Grin

he reminded me of a posh schoolboy-the sort that would have hung around with flashman and picked on tom brown Big Grin

I don't know anything about the bloke, but have you read his column? Its occasionally laugh out loud funny, and usually good on a Thursday reporting on Prime Minister's Question Time.

The Mail's wiki page is rather illuminating

BQ
nah, squiggle i havent

oh, and another thing i like about the DM is the cartoons (next to the crossword Smiler)
i like fred bassett
i dont think i'll ever make an mp-unless the give you a puzzle book to do on the way into the commons

anyway-back to the original question!

just a list of papers will do-with their 'policies' next to it
then i'll be able to understand-hopefully Blush

fact is a lot of people were fooled by hitler in the earlier years especially, none moreso than chamberlin.

I like the 'Guardian' and the 'Observer'. Also take the 'Independent' now and then.

I would not have the 'Daily Mail' in the house, it's even worse than the 'Sun' in my opinion.

I'm the same, I have the Grauniad and Observer delivered, although I prefer the Times rather than the Independent.
The answer to the original question is that it depends what your interests are. As someone who has been interested in politics all my life obviously I'm going to go for the structural, nay Marxist, analysis of current affairs.
Other individuals are interested in popular culture to various levels and will choose accordingly.
Alas! These other papers occasionally attempt to do political news and quite frankly, it has them and their readers baffled.

pmsl i just tried to do that, but it started to turn into 10,000 word thesis Blush..when you try and write each parties policies or even general 'attitude' you get into a right pickle Eeker...

Daily Mail is a 'little englander' (anti-europe etc) paper which is how the conservative party is often viewed..

The Daily Mail has never been tardy in dishing it out. People in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones and all that.

The Daily Mail isn't here to defend itself is it? Not that it needs defending, imo. Just makes me laugh because I can set my clock that as soon as there is any discussion on newspapers, then out come the DM haters Laugh
