i know you read 'em Roll Eyes

what ive never understood is their readers, policies and views
you know-like what sort of person reads whats newspaper

i read the daily mail and ive been laughed at because of it-however, i read it because littlejohns rants make me laugh, they do really good features about figures in history etc..they do excerpts from new books which i read and decide if the book is worth buying, they do excellent film reviews which i can understand! the weekend tv mag is great and i like doing the cryptic crossword-in a nutshell, the paper doesnt represent my views, i just like it for the features

so if someone could explain what the other papers 'stand for' i would be grateful :thumb

please bear in mind-im not thick-just not very well educated, never went to school etc..
but i can read and write, im good at quizzes, got a good business head on me-i just dont 'get' certain things
so laymans terms would be great Big Grin

I read something at the weekend to the effect that the MPs fee scandal has breathed a new lease of life into many local papers, each of which now has a juicy local farrago to really delve into.

True...when i was younger I just liked ours to see who that i knew had been up in court! Laugh

I wouldn't wipe my backside with the the Daily Mail. Everything wrong in this country is the fault of single mothers, asylum seekers or whatever other minority they feel like picking on this week.
Plus, they and their sister paper the London Evening Standard supported Oswald Mosley's fascists during WW2 and urged Britain to do a deal with Hitler.

Nothin on earth could persuade me to buy that rag, any more than a Liverpool fan could be persuaded to buy the Sun.

For a bit of objectivity, I prefer the Independent. For comic silliness, it's the Mirror.

and the first with print that didnt come off in your hand (so was safe to wipe with Wink)

Yes indeed! I wish they would all do that. I was reading my colleague's Sun paper the other day, well reading is perhaps not what I was doing Big Grin Looked at my hands and they were covered with newspaper print which I had subsequently transferred to my face Mad

The Daily Mail also has Sister Newspapers (local rags) all over the Country, especially the West Country (Plymouth Evening Herald, Western Morning News, Exeter Herald, to name a few), so their views go to a wide range of readers, I used to work for them and and they have a big influence over what is readin this Country today Nod

Trinity Mirror own papers all over the country, including nearly all the papers in Wales, plus Newcastle, Liverpool and Birmingham.

dont get me wrong-i dont read the DM for their views (see above!)
and without getting into politics too much-i think immigration is becoming a problem-but then you look in your own backyard and the MPs are the worse particular type of people that this country has got!
and they talk about asylum seekers 'screwing the country for everything they can get'
anyway-back to the papers-yeah, i dont mind the mirror and that old 'today' paper had a very good crossword aswell

i like crosswords-i tend to judge a paper by them Big Grin

And some would say their editorial line hasn't changed much since

I remember when the Mail were constantly
digging at the Porn Baron that took over the Express, chipped away for months, then suddenly
the Express remind the mail of their postion
regarding Hitler, No more was heard from the Mail on that subject.

I agree china, I read the daily mail and I find it on the whole a well balanced newspaper. It certainly doesn't give a biaised view. I like the political commentator - is it Quentin Lettes? - he makes me laugh, such tongue in cheek remarks. I used to read the daily mirror years ago but I had to stop buying it as they were always ranting on.

I used to subscribe to The Times but I don't buy it any more, I was finding I used to scan it rather than 'read it' due to working and starting house work etc. Even now I'm not working I've got out of the habit and 'go online' if I want to read anything.
I'm ashamed to say I've always detested our local paper. I can't bear it - it's too patronising imo.

The Mail and The Express are also know as 'Broadloids' btw Nod - as in they're tabloids trying to be broadsheets.
