It's Gavin Henson.
How was she able to remove it and "restore" it, without anyone knowing?
I'm sure she was only trying to help but she didn't half make a mess of the painting.
One of the articles I read about this today made it sound like she just did it right there Yogi
I love the way they describe it as an "alarming and unauthorised attempt"
She couldn't remove it because a fresco is painted directly on to the wall. (edited to add....she went with her bumper pack of Crayola)
I wish you could have heard the Radio 2 description of it, it was so funny I thought it was a joke, until I looked online.
I think that's what's known as desecreation
i weeped with joy*
*i pissed myself laughing

Me too. That sort of thing really get's me.
The best part is that I bet the "restorer" thinks they have done a great job!!

They have ! I think it's a great likeness!

The pensioner's efforts have resulted in a Travis-ty.
I hope the fresco is able to be properly restored.

It's hilarious, but you have to think 'what on earth was she thinking?'
I honestly thought they were joking when I heard it on the radio, because the news reader was stifling giggles and described the finished product along the lines of 'planet of the apes in a cloak'
I've just seen this on Twitter, looks like she's been at it again.
I don't get why people want to restore things? As a part of history it should be allowed to deteriorate with time. Take pictures etc but leave things in their natural state. Preserve it but don't restore it. Doesn't restoring it take away from it's natural state? It's natural deterioration with time? Time which is in effect our "history"?
I keep coming back to this article because it makes me howl with laughter.

I believe they want to restore to "preserve for future generations".
Oh and also make money out of people going to see the items in museums.
I have not considered your point before and I kinda like it. So I think I may agree with you on this point. If you think about it, all our history will disappear at some point as our sun will not last forever and will "take us out" when it's own life ends.
..
I'm still laughing at this.
