I wasn't sure whether to post this one - the 19th Jan pic that I said I'd done last week!

January 19 - OK, I've cheated today - I did take these photos, but not today. Today is one year since Granda passed away and I wanted today's photo to be about him; it wouldn't have been right to not acknowledge it. I saw this when I was out for a walk with mam and dad over the Christmas break and it made me think of him, so it seemed sort of fitting.

A little monument (?) at Seaham to the 3 mines that used to be here: Seaham, Vane Tempest and Dawdon. Granda worked as a facer or 'hewer' at Dawdon mine - he worked at the coal face loosening the coal and moving forward.

The plaque says "You were workin 23 mile out to sea. You were nearly an hour underground before you got started"

So I had a quiet moment standing there, looking out to sea and thinking of my granda, all those years ago working in conditions I can't even imagine 23 miles out under the North Sea... maybe somewhere out at the horizon.

So how is everyone getting on with it? Have we lost any participants?

I'm struggling a bit at the minute, I think it's to do with the weather - it's been grim and raining a lot recently so I'm just hurrying into work. Then when I leave it's dark (and still raining)

I'm still trying, Saz.. but like you I'm starting to struggle because of the work thing.  (also because of road safety... I saw a cracking image the other night at sunset on the way home, but it would have meant stopping in an unsafe place to take the photo!)

So am I, Saz.  I've been in all day faffing around and in desperation have taken a photo of a bar of soap..!

20 Jan   When I moved in to this house a few months ago, I had to buy some bits and bobs to fill the walls etc.. some cheap, some not so cheap...   I think I've had more compliments about these than any other single thing..   

They don't look bad I reckon for £2.49 the set out of B & M Bargains 

I like the soap and the pics - red wine, what's not to like?!

Don't you just hate it when you find a strange object in a weird place and you have no idea what it is or how it got there.    I stood on this when I was walking from the living room to the kitchen this morning.   ?????   I'm waiting for something to fall to bits....   If anyone has any ideas...

I'm thinking off something electrical (don't have speaker stands) but I did haul the Tivo box and CD player out of the display unit the other day....

nope - it's metal  - like a cut off tip of a screw.. and no hole in the end.

Rex wasn't in the vicinity was he - he had shoes like that.

Did he call wosserface (girlfriend) Ba11BBY too  

I think it's one of those flat pack furniture fixings, something some  where in some thing flat packed, in your house,has an empty hole....

There were a couple of others of us all in the pub, and B's friend teaching B how to cook Oh and a couple near work, and B posting his passport application
