Urrgh moral dilemma! The Kid's sports day which was supposed to be today, was cancelled yesterday for fear of rain. They've only postponed it and it's now tomorrow Eeker Tomorrow I have to be at work as I have a workshop to deliver to our new staff with another colleague. We've planned this for weeks and weeks and it took ages to sort out a date to do it.

I picked The Kid up from school today and she was clearly upset as they had been having sports day practise all day and I wasn't even going to be there tomorrow to see it. Boy was she was upset Frowner

*sighs* Bliddy hell - what to do? Confused

Tell her you will try your best, then when she asks you later where you were tell her you were their but she was having so much fun you just watched, play it by ear what to say and if you don't know what to say, say that must have happened before I got their....

My mum (nor dad) ever saw me at sport's day because they had to work. I didn't mind that much as we used to have a treat at the weekend.
Can't you promise her a little treat?
Cosmopolitan
I would say work, because of your workshop.

But i would be honest with her, and tell her, your going to work to get some extra money to take her out for a special treat at weekend, whether she wins or loses, just because your proud of her for taking part .

Thats what i would do and then obviously take her shopping or to a movie or something.

If your close, she will get over it but want a treat Big Grin

Really difficult dilemma hun.

Do the times totally clash? Can you do the presentation in the morning and the sports day in the afternoon or vice versa.
would your colleague cover you if you left early.

Personally I would always put my kids before my job ( I always did tbh) and I would say blow work off if it was just a normal work day. But because of the workshop thingy, I don't know what to suggest.
Can you tell her how upset you are to miss her sports day and tell her how much work you've put into the work thingy and that you arranged it for tomorrow just so it didn't clash with her sports day?

Good luck whatever you do, really difficult for you Hug

No. I understood it that you HAD to go to work.
If you have a choice then obviously you go to sports day. Smiler

If you have no choice then you make it up some other way. Cool

The thing is... if I'm honest... I HATE sports day! I hoped it would be cancelled but I didn't think they'd put on a day when I have to be at work Eeker

I've hated every sports day I've been forced to attend as well. You stand there like a lemon and then you go home.

Awww thank you Hug In all honesty I'm leaning towards not going to work and postponing the workshop. In the grand scheme of things she's more important than a blinking job! Even though I HATE going to sports day Laugh

Yeah, but I feel terribly guilty. My home life is constantly interfering with my work life.

If there's the possibility that you can postpone your meeting.....and if it was me...I'd postpone and go to Sports Day.

And no, I didn't like having to attend the school things either but you just grit your teeth, don't you?

Tell a lie that makes them feel sorry for you, your pipes have flooded, your carpets runied, you have been up since 6 trying to resolve it, you gotta wait for a plumber, blah, blah, blah!

Laugh

I can't be bothered to lie. I'll just tell the truth. There'll be no sympathy though - it's been overkill with my childcare situation in the last few months, so I think sympathy wears a little thin after a while Nod
Girlrider29
An all day sports day? Eeker

what are these people? Professional torturers?

We've all done it hun, sat through the crap just to show willing for the kids - if you can reschedule your work I'd say then do so.

Your daughter will always be your daughter but chances are that you will change your job at some point
As I said before, Good Luck Hug

As working mums I always felt that we are pulled between work and home far more than men are
