Spiffing

Jolly good. although i hear this is making a come back.

Brisket I do agree there are so many lovely words no longer in use, English is not my husbands first language and yet he speaks it beautifully, way better than most native speakers and would incorporate many words that have long been forgotten. Perhaps I'm biased but I find it charming

Letter writing is a dying art now, hence the loss of some words. Its all abbreviations and text speak now...shame

"Spiffing"  sounds boys-own-public-school sort of jargon.
But I like "jolly good" very much. Sounds nice without being gushing.
I've decided to use it at some point today.

 I know, I'm only married seven years but still have every little card and letter my hubby gave me. To this day he still writes me little billet doux

Me too....I do like the word 'poppycock' though, and of course, who could forget 'bolderdash'...

I'd vote for that!  It's a word you can fair spit out!

balderdash, poppycock and wherewithal - all words that I love and use regularly.

My mum uses some lovely by-gone terms. When she's angry at my brothers she'll call them 'bounders' and 'brutes'. 
Aww fairfax  I've kept all my letters from my mister when we first met and were in a long distance relationship. I was in Oxford and he was in Manchester 

I still use chortle and guffaw!

I love the word brute ....I shall try and use that as often as possbile

Clump

As in when my mum used to say 'I'll clump you round the ear in a minute if you don't behave'.

It's lovely the way my mum says it. Something like 'Gerrout my sight you silly Brute. I didn't carry you for 9 months for you to darken my heritage with your barbaric ways!!!'....and that would be after one of my brothers had got a bad report at school

They were naughty in Primary school, and my mum comes out with it straight. We always knew where we stood

Besides strumpet, there's another good one - trollop.

And, even though not rife (see what I did there?), I am so pleased they are still in use.
