Neither am I. O, OH, EAU and EAUX all sound 'oh' so how do you know which way they spell it when it is spoken only?quote:Originally posted by PeterCat:quote:Originally posted by Rawky-Roo:

Oh and 'Gat-O' instead of 'Gateaux'.
I'm not getting that last one, Rawky.
Oh, are you meaning misplaced stress, as oposed to mispronounced/misspelled word?quote:Originally posted by PeterCat:I'm not really seeing the difference (and I speak French), but I'm sure you're rightquote:Originally posted by Rawky-Roo:quote:Originally posted by PeterCat:quote:Originally posted by Rawky-Roo:

Some people pronounce it 'Gat-O' instead of 'Ga-toe', ya get me!
OH says 'oree' instead of awry
We jokingly say gatooks. But it's only ever in the family and everyone knows thats not the correct pronunciation.quote:Originally posted by Supercalifragilistic:quote:Originally posted by Rawky-Roo:quote:Originally posted by PeterCat:quote:Originally posted by Rawky-Roo:

Still not getting that one ...in my family we often say gatox as a joke as well as buff-et instead of buffey
btw - par-lee-ment gets on my nerves - it's subtle but it's still parliament. There's another but it escapes me at the moment.
But the Th - F thing annoys me as well!

Guilty of the 'prolly' thing, but that's just me being lazy. I know the proper word is probably

I have a friend that suffers from what I call misplaced H syndrome. She puts it in front of words where it shouldn't be and drops it off the front of words where it should be, as in, HI'll 'ave han 'alf of lager. HI've booked into han 'otel. It used to drive me mad as I was always wanting to correct her but now I figure that she can't actually 'elp hit.
has anyone rit about people saying rit instead of wrote?? I quite happily feel like putting people in hospital for saying RIT! That berk Charlie said it the other day

Just noticed Queenie has 'of it of club' in her sig we need to decide which we're calling it!
Well, it should be apostrophied, as they really are meaning 'I'm going to Tesco's shop'.quote:Originally posted by Supercalifragilistic:

My dad used to drive me mad with San-yoi instead of Sanyo and Penelop instead instead of Penelope lol. My mum always got her words wrong...one time watching tv in a bar she called out, 'look at the size of those testicules', when it was an octopus on the screen

I hate how British newsreaders (and other people) pronounce tsunami as "sue-narmy". It's tsu(pronounce the 't' as well as the 's') -na(short 'a') -mee.

Either "ed" or "t" ending can be used in those irregular verbs, although the "ed" ending is more commonly used now.
