I can't quite get the gist of what she is complaining about. Is it that they are wanting proof of her Britishness when she has represented GB in the Paralympics? In fairness to the DWP, everyone has to fill out those bloody forms and they are a nightmare for everyone.

I did wonder at the whole 'I was living in Germany but came home to get benefits' attitude.

That whole "they don't consider her British" line which crops up several times in the article and video is a complete red herring: she is not being required to prove her nationality (that's almost certainly one of the questions, but it's not the deciding factor).

As the DWP spokesman pointed out, her nationality isn't the issue. What it comes down to is that she's been living abroad for three years, and has to prove she's now living in the UK, and intends to remain in the UK, before she can can claim Income Support - that's it.

It all rather looks as if she's just assumed she's entitled to the same benefits as before, hasn't bothered to fill in the forms correctly and now is shocked and hurt because they won't just give her "her" money...

Pretty much agree with Veggie and EL, and the people on the message boards, that the woman is actually not being asked anything ludicrous.  It's just what anyone else would have to do.  Question is, is she using her disability to get people to support her/feel sorry for her?  Or is she using the fact that she is was in the paralympics? 

Whatever it is, I think it's a bit daft that this story has even been published, because she is not being asked to do anything any different to everyone else.  Looks like she went to the press in the hope of getting some sympathy or support from the public, and it's backfired, as most people just seem annoyed with her. 

I don't know if this would happen, but her 'making bad publicity' for the DWP, 'could' sway their decision to give her what she wants...

Nah, they can't deny her benefits because she's peed them off but they can be obstructive - or more obstructive than they usually are.
