Today Mary Bale pleaded guiLTy to causing uneccessary suffering to a cat and was fined ÂĢ250. The judge said that she had taken Bale's vilification into account. Bale was also banned from keeping or owning animals for the next 5 years and also has to pay costs of ÂĢ1,171.

Bale's solicitor said that Bale bitterly regretted what she had done but does not know why she did it. Bale apologised again to the cat's owners. Her father had been admitted to hospital 10 days before the incident and was in a critical state following a fall. He had since died. The solicitor said that Bales had been under tremendous strain and has since been diagnosed with depression. She has been vilified in the media and online, received hate-mail, abusive telephone calls and death threats. She has also resigned from her job which she had held for 27 years.

There are sick folk out there.I was reading in todays paper about a little boy that has cancer. He met   his hero Jenson Button through one of those "Wish" charities ,it was also revealed that there has been a sick hate  campaign against the little boy on the internet.
I'll bet if that woman had chucked a baby in the bin she wouldn't get half as much hate mail  as a cat.

If that's all true then IMO she has suffered enough.

So her father had been admitted 10 days before the incident and was in a critical state.
How does she respond? By being cruel to a fellow creature.
I do think she has been through a lot but it was mostly self inflicted...
People have to take some responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming outside influences..

How many people on here have been through the most dreadful times? How many people  do we all know in RL who have been to hell and back and how many of those have done something cruel to someone else as a result?

Not many I bet.
What she did was stupid and cruel and there is no excuse. The consequences are what she has to live with. IMO the people who threatened her are no better than her either - but I do not feel sorry for her,

We have had a dreadful case locally where an alcoholic drunk on her way to a self help group mounted a pavement and killed a 59 year old woman and seriously injured her 2 grandchildren at 11 0 clock in the morning,This was in July.
Her lawyer tried to explain that she was depressed due in part to the strain in getting to work and being stuck in the snow for 5 hours back in January, Apparently this and other things was why she was an alcoholic,
BUT she had the choice - she must have had some idea what would happen if she drove drunk -even if she was inebriated at the time.

God knows I have compassion for my fellow human - but when other innocent beings suffer and people cannot take responsibility, then it is hard.
