You're reading way too much into this Renton. This is only an initial response to a very vague advert.... if the man turned out to be an ill-mannered twonk most of those 80% would run a mile. Everyone is initially attracted to someone for essentially shallow reasons, those reasons don't keep you there though. Over time it becomes more or you move on.

Agree Ducky...  Renton can always be depended on to put a thinly veiled 'woman bashing' thread,     (JK!)    Yes, maybe some women DO go for a man who is wealthy, tall and handsome in the first instance, but no more than men go for women who are leggy, blonde and slim.  We ALL have a tendency to be 'shallow.'  Anyone who says they don't go for a particlular 'type'or that they don't prefer someone conventionally attractive is a liar.

And what the hell is wrong with having a preference for a certain type?  If a woman says they would prefer a poor and humble man, she would be celebrated and cheered, but God forbid she says she prefers a rich man.

So most women (or some women anyway,) prefer a man with money and a nice car  and maybe a fit body, but the vast majority of men will 'prefer' a slimmer figure on a woman, no matter how much they try to deny it.  I am sure some men still love their wives/partners even if they get podgy, but in the first instance, a man will go for good looks, in other words; a slim or athletic body.  So the whole argument is totally academic IMO.

*puts evolutionary biologist's hat on*

Men probably tend towards woman who are likely to be able to bear and raise children successfully ie. young, healthy.  Women probably tend towards men who are strong and successful irrespective of age.  Ancestral environment stuff, innit.
