A very nice gesture, money won't help the trauma the woman been through but it can help moving on with her life.

Hopefully that will go some way to restoring that poor woman's faith in human nature.

There are still some nice people left in this world, well done him, it won't give her health back, but it may help her.
He's right - he did not deserve the award. It was right that the victim received the money instead.
That's wonderful, somehow I find it hard to believe many young lads would have done that

Well done to him. It's such a shame that people don't come forth with information unless they are to get a fee for their information. Here is a young man who did come forth with information that led to a conviction and gave his fee to the victim. Obviously, it isn't done often or it wouldn't be news.
Even people finding things and handing them in these days - they get some kind of reward. I handed in somebody's glasses once, and they tried to give me some money. Why?? Obviously I refused.

Sad, isn't it?I wonder if it's because they are worried that the person who commited the crime would come after them for being a grass, or if it's because they just can't be bothered.
True, fabienne, I don't get why anyone should expect to be rewarded simply for doing the right thing.
People are more selfish these days, I think.

Awww what a lovely story Rape is a horrific enough experience to go through, but this poor woman has also been left having to be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Good on that guy for donating the money to her.
Years ago I lost my purse in Brixton, had cash, credit cards, photos, the lot in there and I was sure I'd never see it again. Then a package came through the post from an old lady who had found it and sent everything back, cash aswell. I wrote back with 50 quid in cash to help with her shopping and 20 quid in vouchers. I did it cos she didn't have to go the trouble of sending it to me at all, she could have just handed it in (if that). She then phoned me insisting she didn't want the money but I said if she sent it back I'd go and buy her some shopping myself and leave it on her doorstep

Nice lad.
Poor woman and thank god he gave police the lead.
I gave a kid ÂĢ10 for finding my purse with no money in it once, the little shit nicked my stamps I later discovered!

Karma, that's a lovely story! You hear stories like yours and the OP, and it makes you think that the world isn't going to hell in a handbasket.
so so nice to hear something nice for a change.. well done that lad, most would have kept the money I think.. his family must be very proud he is adecent human being.
what a brilliant man
although (& please don't judge) she would have got a lot of money after the incident through CICA.
He let the police know so I think he should have treatd himself a little too.

I couldn't watch it, I watched some on GMTV and it set me off!The little lad recovered from Cancer was ace!
He was a right character. I sit in tears watching it every year

What a great young man.Mr Gardner added: "I know that it was the right thing to do. I would have probably spent it on an expensive car or something which doesn't seem right so I am happy with my decision."
Good for him.
I once got a box of chocolates for sending someone's purse back to them.

What a lovely and thoughtful thing to do - ÂĢ10,000 to a 22 year old would be so much money to do what he liked but graciously he's given this victim a bit of hope in humanity.
Well done him
