Golden days, Syd, golden days

Bob White's stall outside the Oval station every Sunday morning with my dad.

Or failing that, round to the shop in Kennington Lane if it was raining.

Head of celery, pint of prawns, ditto scampi and a few tubs of jellied eels.

Luvverly grub.

Our Sunday night teas were something else .........................my dad worked in the market - we had a full salad lettuce, cucumber, celery, tomatoes, cress, water cress, beetroot - ham and tongue - prawns, winkles and cockles and of course the obligatory bread and butter!

All this on top of a full fried breakfast at 9.30 or 10 - huuuuuuuuuuuuge roast dinner at 2 and tea at 6. My poor old mum - it was work, work, work!

You don't like a nice tub of whelks?

Dripping in chilli vinegar and smothered in pepper?

I munch on a tubful most weeks driving home from the fishmongers...
