It's the type of grape.
Australian shiraz is good.
S.African pinotage is good.
Argentinian malbec is good.
Sangovese, Italian and Corsican, are good.
It depends on preference as to which will suit you, I don't much like most French wines.Pinotage is very smoot as is Shiraz, both are full bodied and dark purple colour.
Malbec is a bit sharper but also deep purple.
Sangovese, is very drinkable but with a dry finish to it.
You'll have to try a few to see what you like.
