Windows 10 defaults to keylogging, harvesting browser history, purchases, and covert listening

Like you, we don't touch these things with a barge pole until well after others have discovered and reported all the bugs and we're fairly sure they've all been ironed out.

I downloaded W10 yesterday  At least its done away with the swooshy W8 screen "charms" or whatever they were called. Traditional left side menu is back!

 

Can't believe anyone would want to listen in to my borin' life!  

I'm still using windows 7...

I will probably upgrade to Windows 10 at some point, but it won't be this year.

Apart from the usual "wait until they've fixed the bugs" issues, I've also been hearing a lot of concerns about privacy. The new features in Windows 10 - particularly Cortana, apparently - appear to be very aggressive in data gathering, and this is tied to the "unique advertising ID number" which is assigned to your Microsoft account (which Windows 10 tries to get you to set up as part of the installation). Basically, it all comes down to personalised marketing.

Yes, I'm going with the later rather than the sooner too.

 

I've also read it doesn't come with a video player either. Media Player but not Media Centre

And I. Nor have/had I any intention of changing that anytime soon. If my previous PC hadn't gone a bit loopy, I'd still be on XP!

I'm still using Windows 7, when I bought this computer I had the choice of operating systems and refused Windows 8. I will install 10 at some point, I'm sure we have a year to make up our minds, by that time it should be bug free 

Har! Well this comp came with windows 7,it was my nieces and when she moved back in with me ,we stuck with it.didn't even think to"upgrade" to windows 8. I  was offline for about a year ,then used a dongle,but she has brought her SKY tv and broadband with her..

Did two hours on the treadmill, did some washing, made my tea and other assorted dull things  

God I'm soooo bored - someone shoot me

Mrs Jer still swears by, and sometimes at, XP. Our joint owned laptop remains on that. Her computer and backup computer also remain thusly.

I have a back up on seven but yesterday decided to upgrade the main one to ten.

It wasn't as straightforward as I would have hoped but got there in the end.

I will now investigate the scare stories and alter as necessary.

I seem to remember years ago that folk thought that windows Xp was the devil.I suppose we don't like change..

XP and Seven seem to have been the most reliable ones!
When I worked in the lab the powers that be felt the need to change every time Windows did. There have been some very dodgy ones over the years!

Aye, that Vista was a wrong 'un 

My old comp's on Vista and but for it's age it still works quite well. I never had a problem with Vista 

 

My new one started out as Win 8 (despite me saying no way was I having it)  I'm now on 8.1 and it's ok.

 

I'm not upgrading for a good while yet 

They had to prise my Visa PC off me last year in work when we employed an IT company and moved everyone onto windows 365     I was not amused.   I'm still not.    I'm very much of the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' school.

No problem with W10 so far, except the F keys don't work.

The first thing am not happy with is..I can't find office or excel??
except for a download which by the look can only be used when online instead of being on the computer...is this right ?

Slimfern I just checked and Office is still on my pc after I upgraded to W10. Its in the Downloads folder - have you checked there? [ Sorry if that's a stupid answer and you already have ].

I don't have it as a download Roger, it came with my computer along with windows 7
Have also found that all the cd's I have uploaded to my pc..I now can't play unless I download an app & have to be online to play them .....surely that can't be right.....
and also! silly as it may seem....spider solitaire only has spades...have lost hearts diamonds & clubs......what's that all about?

Have a look at your game settings and change the skill level. "Beginner" level is played with just one suit (spades).
