El Loro

Today's matches include:

Centre Court

Hantuchova (25) v Azarenka (4)

Andy Murray (4) v Ljubicic

Court 1

Laura Robson v Sharapova (5)

Sanchez-Martinez v Venus Williams (23)

Nadal (1) v Muller

Elena Baltacha's delayed match with Peng (20) is the first match on court 18.

Considering Andy Murray's indifferent record of matches with Ljubicic, there is a real possibility that this will be the last day of British involvement in the singles.

El Loro

Although Elena Baltacha won the first set against Peng, Peng won the next two sets.

Laura Robson did creditably well against Sharapova. In the first set, at one stage she was ahead, took the set to a tie break which Sharapova won. Sharapova then won the second set.

So Andy Murray is the last British player still in the singles, but he is yet to play his match today.

El Loro

Lopez beat Roddick in yesterday's surprise result in the men's singles. There was a major surprise in the women's singles where Pironkova beat the second seed Zvonareva.

Andy Murray beat Ljubicic in a good test of Murray's form as in previous years this was a match which Murray could well have lost. They had met on 6 previous times with each winning 3 matches. Murray's next match is against Gasquet seeded 17.

There were wins for Azarenka, Sharapova and Venus Williams.

El Loro

Today's matches (weather permitting) include:

Centre Court

Wozniacki (1) v Gajdosova (27)

Nalbandian (28) v Federer (3)

Baghdatis (32) v Djokovic (2)

Court 1

The conclusion of Nadal (1) v Muller

Kirilenko (26) v Serena Williams (7)

Soderling (5) v Tomic

The first match on Court 2 is Zakopalova v Sharapova (5)

Although Murray is the only Brit left in the singles, there are still lots of Brits playing today in the various doubles matches.

El Loro

The draws for the last 16 are:

Mens

Nadal (1) v Del Potro (24)

Fish (10) v Berdych (6)

Murray (4) v Gasquet (17)

Kubot v Lopez

Ferrer (7) v Tsonga (12)

Youzhny (18) v Federer (3)

Tomic v Malisse

Llodra (19) v Djokovic (2)

So 2 unseeded players are guaranteed to progress to the quarter finals.

Womens

Wozniacki (1) v Cibulkova (24)

Peng (20) v Sharapova (5)

Lisicki v Cetkovska

Bartoli (9) v Serena Williams (7)

Paszek v Pervak

Petrova v Azarenka (4)

Kvitova (8) v Wickmayer (19)

Venus Williams (23) v Pironkova (32)

So at least 2 unsedded players are guaranteed to progress to the quarter finals.

And it is possible the way that platers have been drawn that on paper there could be an all Williams final.

El Loro

El Loro

The women's 4th round matches have been completed. The biggest shock of the tournament was the defeat of the number 1 seed Wozniacki by Cibulkova. Both of the Williams sisters were also defeated.

The quarter finals tomorrow are:

Centre Court

Lisicki v Bartoli (9)

Cibulkova (24) v Sharapova (5)

Court 1

Kvitova (8) v Pironkova (32)

Paszek v Azarenka (4)

Men's results so far today:

Fish (10) beat Berdych (6)

Murray (4) beat Gasquet (17)

Lopez beat Kubot

Tomic beat Malisse

Dkojovic (2) beat Llodra (19)

The only quarter finals known at present are:

Murray (4) v Lopez (ranked 44 in the world)

and Tomic v Djokovic.

Murray would be expected to beat Lopez. And although Djokovic would be expected to beat Tomic, Tomic is clearly the rising star of Wimbledon this year. He may be 158 in the world rankings at present, but he is likely to shoot up.

El Loro

The other two men's results from yesterday were:

Nadal (1) beat Del Potro (24)

Federer (3) beat Youzhny (18)

Nadal picked up a foot injury during his match and there are concerns that he will be forced to withdraw from the competition which would be a pity.

The quarter finals to be played on Wednesday are:

Nadal (1) v Fish (10)

Murray (4) v Lopez

Tsonga (12) v Federer (3)

Tomic v Djokovic (2)

El Loro

There were wins yesterday for Lisicki, Sharapova, Kvitova and Azarenka.

So the semi-finals are

Lisicki v Sharapova (5)

Kvitova (8) v Azarenka (4)

Although Lisicki is currently ranked 62 and was given a wildcard for Wimbledon, she had been out for a time due to a serious ankle injury, hence her comparatively low ranking. She is a past quarter-finalist at Wimbledon.

El Loro

The men's singles final on Sunday will be between Nadal who beat Tsonga and Djokovic who beat Murray. There was almost a sense of inevitability that this would be the final. I suspect it will be Djokovic who wins. Regardless of who wins Djokovic will become the world number one as the current rankings points score show that he is only a few points behind Nadal and whereas last year he lost in the semi finals whereas Nadal won the final.
