DVLA will probs save some dosh by letting it all be electronic.

When you think about it, sending off for a peice of perforated paper, then tearing  it from around the perforations ( an art I have never mastered) and then either bending it up and  forcing it into a bit of plastic, stuck haphazardly on your windscreen, or cellotaping it on... does seem a bit quaint and archaic now.

Vehicle tax Baz. If it was truly ROAD tax we'd all be paying it to some degree....even  cyclists and pedestrians!

So anyway, what sort of car is that?

It's one of those quirky things we do. It's 'Vehicle Excise Duty' but most call it road tax.

Me too.

I wished I had kept all of mine now. I think they would make a nice piece of art framed - I have so many ideas on how to do them in frames as well.

Yes, they would have

I have loads of them lol
But I won't miss it, it's hassle having to find my insurance & mot documents and then going to the post office.. And you before anyone says it, no I can't apply online for mine because it's due too soon after my insurance runs out...

I hope the new system has considered older people who may be baffled by it

You will have to buy vehicle tax from the day you buy a car, there is a few days grace before the ANPR updates, the current tax on the car is refunded to the seller. The tax will be attached to the owner of the vehicle(not  as in perforated circles though...) rather than the vehicle. You will be able to pay monthly though.

In January the paper part of the driver's licence will also become defunct, which has to be a good thing, as nearly everyone I know loses it almost the minute they get it.

Oh, I didn't know that ... I've still got an old fashioned green paper driver's licence, I expect they will make that defunct soon too
