Excuse me ....but they are the same thing American bison ...also known as American buffalo

Though the terms are often used interchangeably, buffalo and bison are distinct animals. Old World “true” buffalo (Cape buffalo and water buffalo) are native to Africa and Asia. Bison are found in North America and Europe. Both bison and buffalo are in the bovidae family, but the two are not closely related

The American bison or simply bison, also commonly known as the American buffalo or simply buffalo, is an American species of bison that once roamed North America in vast herds. Wikipedia

I honestly know they are two different species, don't know why the USA would call a buffalo a bison. they have distinct differences.
