He does make eye contact when speaking with someone, but a camera lens is not a human eye.

Exactly, it's a prying eye. It's exactly why Rodrigo didn't want to sit in the chair when he was angry and upset that time. Some people are more camera shy than others.

I think Marcus has a problem with authority of any kind and this is his way of showing his insubordination. His body language in the diary room shouts this out. And he does not maintain eye contact with his fellow HMs as he usually lies on his bed talking over to them or sideways on when talking to them in the living room.

But Marcus is also shy and lacks self-confidence. I agree with OHG, Marcus has a huge kind heart under that tough insubordinate exterior. A kind heart cancels out all other behaviours imo.

YIP ALL the swearing the vulgarity, the "crudeness" etc etc, dont count for shit cause beneath ALL that LOTS of people can see there is a decent human being, Nod

yeah OHG, it took me a while to realise it but he is one of the most genuinely kind HMs this year. I find Marcus fascinating now, and I much prefer him to the prancing-around-for-attention crew. Yes he is crude in his language sometimes, but he is different and interesting. The kind heart does it for me though, but he bluddy hates authority I tell ya. Laugh

hehe cant knock him for that Laugh

Agree with all of these posts Smiler

I have noticed that he always adopts that same slouchy 'sideways on' position in the diary room. TBH, I think Marcus is OK, but I am getting bored and tired of his attitude and foul mouth; it's getting old now. Frowner It was amusing before, but now it's like ... Sleepy

Agree Nod

My adult daughter who is badly autistic NEVER looks anyone in the eye when talking but she is one of the most honest and truthful people going. She's certainly not rude either.
Some people are shy, and it is often perceived as rudeness and offhandedness (is that a word? LOL,) which is a shame.

Yes it is a shame. Also, many if not most people look away when thinking about what to say. The more one needs to concentrate and think the longer they look away. Well known fact! Thumbs Up

and some people cant due to a condition...like autism (or stare or have flitting eye contact).

i myself have to make myself aware of my eye contact to maintain it without staring Laugh
