I'm with you Kaffy, I'm a total fraidy cat when it comes to fairground rides.

A safe thread.... thank you, thank you, thank you!
Right, ahem... fairground rides! Yeah.... I used to when I was young and thought I was immortal, but not anymore!
Especially the travelling fairs.... where some bloke has dismantled them and put them back up with a spanner!
Also... I don't like the feeling when your stomach 'goes'..... or the cranking up the hill before the steep slopey bit.
If I am wittering on... is only cos I have said about all I could in the Moth thread...

I still have to pay full fare when we go to oakwood. **sigh** I don't go on anything. Not even the sappy Treetops rollercoaster. I carry the coats and the drinks and that's about it.
I reckon I should get in for free. They could sticker my hand to mark me out as a non-combatant.

Dodgem cars used to my limit... now I don't bother at all. Mind you .... give you a week and maybe you should be queuing up for a go on The Big One (no pun intended!)

Oh yeah.... when you see some of the guys that put them together! If it's not hand built by robots and it goes more than two miles an hour I ain't getting on it.
I avoid fairs now.. can't stand anything about them, the smell makes me but that may be because a nurse friend of mine told me how they had an old woman from the fair brought into hozzie one night and they had to admit her. She needed scrubbed down and virtually de-loused and when she got chatting they asked what she did... 'Oh, I run a hot dog stall, dear..'

Yup...no choice if I'm taking the kids.
I've been on that! I came off with a massive headache, it's a right boneshaker!
On the few ocassions anyone has managed to persuade me to get on a rollercoaster in the last 10 years I haven't enjoyed one second of it! I closed my eyes and prayed for it to end the whole time.

ooooooooo yes.......i love rollercoasters........
i've been on the big dipper at blackpool loads of times......shocking news......glad it wasn't more of a tragedy.....
a few years back we went on the pepsi max at blackpool..it was chugging up the nice 180ft odd hill.....and broke down......we had to sit and wait for them to rescue us.......

This reminded me of something. There's a local road that has a sharp drop just after the brow of hill where your stomach 'goes' if you're travelling at any speed at all. When my niece was little, she used to love going that way and had her own name for the road. Now.... 30 years on, we still refer to it as 'the tickle-belly road' "Shall we go the main road, or will we take the tickle-belly road?"

That's the one thing that scares me more than falling off it... getting stuck ON it!
Oh I've been on that loads of times at Blackpool, but the "Grand National" a twin track wooden coaster where two carriages race each other is the best.

That would be the end of me there and then. My obituary would read "she shit out her intestines from utter terror before the rescuers could reach her".

I nearly fell off a ride once. I was pretty shaken up by it and so were a few people watching.

Were you not strapped in faery!
I've seen too many horror films to trust those straps and bars.
I hate roller coasters, unfortunately my 12 year old loves them. Last time we took him to blackpool we took along one of his friends, so I didn't have to go on the rides. It didn't work out so well as his friend 'didn't do roller coasters'. Mr Shar spent the day on the dodgems with our sons friend and I spend the day looking for my stomach after being dragged on everything. I hate the big dipper the most, too bad for me that he loves it the most.
Oh and I remember riding it when there were no lap restraint bars over thirty years ago,Just a little handle to hang to on the back of the seat in front of you.I swear you rose a foot out of your seat going over the humps! great stuff!
When I was 5 I fainted after coming off thoose kiddy tea pot rides.
Hated the fairground ever since.

I was strapped in, it was on of these rides...
and I slipped under the bar into the next seat as it went round. The girl next to me freaked out more than I did at the time.
What are those ones that spin round and round called? You can sit 5 or 6 people in them and then the attendant spins them as they move round?
Anyway nothing on god's earth would make me get in one of those, I feel sick just looking at them.
When I was a teenager my friend came off the ride as green as anything, staggered to the side and threw up.....all over this woman's ice-cream and hand who was sitting on a bench next to the ride.
Anyway nothing on god's earth would make me get in one of those, I feel sick just looking at them.

Went on that big dipper once, never again, I felt sick when we came off it and being fairly little, my feet weren't touching the boards and I was sliding all over the place. Love the waltzers though!

Waltzers. Work of the Devil - you can't breathe on them!
