Why is there only two options, respect and disrespect, where is the blatantly uninterested choice? I don't respect MJ but that doesn't mean I disrespect him, I just don't care.

I don't think it is about respecting or disrespecting MJ, I think it is about respecting or disrespecting each other.
I don't respect MJ but i respect those who do and are grief striken at his passing.
Those demanding the people who really couldn't care one way or another respect MJ are being more disrespectful of those that don't really care far more than anyone is disrespecting MJ

Fair point j0anne. However, considering his parents (especially his father) encouraged him to pursue his career in music, the "circus" became part-and-parcel...so it's hardly anything they (the family) cannot handle IMO.
And if that be the case, they're about 40+ years too late to be too alarmed by "the circus".

I'm with you Veggie..and had my knuckles rapped by the 'Show some respect to the dead man' police.FFS even when my own mother was dying/had died,we were still able to laugh at things but hey ho..maybe that makes me a BAD DAUGHTER
I dont even think theres a respect/disrespect dichotomy either.He left behind a tremendous musical legacy,but I dont feel any grief for him personally.And I certainly don't see why laughter at a joke is so disrespectful tbh.
