They do it on Big Brother and someone has been doing it on this forum. If you've slipped up and made an ass of yourself it's there for all to see, the apology is a waste of time, especially if the person you are apologising to has gathered the necessary information from your behaviour to make any decision they need to make ie that you are a fool!!
I think if some one is big enough and brave enough to admit they were wrong and apologise it says alot more about them and gives a bigger picture of the person they are, than one snippet of a post.

I don't even know what all this is about, but my view on apologies is, they're fine if the person is saying they really didn't mean what they said, and are therefore sorry.  If they really did mean what they said initially, and are just apologising because it makes them appear bad, then obviously the apology doesn't count for much.  So, in summary, it depends upon the context.
